Ben Ingram (born March 13, 1980) is an American radio broadcaster and play-by-play announcer for the Atlanta Braves on the Braves Radio Network.[1][2] He was named the Georgia Sportscaster of the Year in 2022 by the National Sports Media Association.[3]

Early life and education

[edit]

Ingram was born in Meridian, Mississippi and raised in Madison, Mississippi where he attended Madison Central High School.[4] In 1998, at the age of 18, he began announcing junior college football games.[4][5]

Ingram attended Mississippi College in Clinton, where he became the voice of the athletics program starting in his sophomore year, calling football, baseball, and basketball games for the school.[5][6] He graduated in 2003 with a degree in communication.[5][7]

Career

[edit]

Minor leagues

[edit]

In 2005, Ingram landed his first job with a professional baseball team with the Eugene Emeralds, the San Diego Padres Single-A affiliate.[8] In 2007, the Mississippi Braves, the Atlanta Braves Double-A affiliate, hired Ingram as a color commentator. He was promoted to play-by-play announcer the following year.[8] During this time, he also broadcast football games for his alma mater, Madison Central.[4][5]

In 2009, after only his second year with the Mississippi Braves, Ingram was named Southern League Radio Broadcaster of the Year. [8][5] Following the award, Mississippi Braves General Manager Steve DeSalvo praised him, stating that Ingram had “a great personality, a tremendous knowledge of the game, and a 'Big League' voice."[8]

Atlanta Braves

[edit]

In September of 2009, while still with the Mississippi Braves, Ingram visited the Atlanta Braves radio booth and spoke with Derek Schiller, then the vice president of sales and marketing for the Braves. A rain delay allowed the two to talk for a few hours, during which Ingram was offered the opportunity to announce a few Spring Training games for the Braves in 2010.[4][5] Ingram then was offered a permanent position with the Atlanta Braves in 2011 and joined as the host of the post-game show and as a fill in for play-by-play.[5] He also provided coverage for the pre-game show and the Braves Clubhouse Report.[1]

In 2019, Ingram became a regular play-by-play announcer for the Braves and, in 2021, he was promoted to the role of primary announcer.[1][4][9] The same year he began hosting the "From the Braves Booth" podcast alongside announcer Joe Simpson and producer Jonathan Chadwick.[10][11]

In the 2025 season, Simpson is his primary color commentator partner, though former players and broadcasters Darren O'Day and Charlie Culberson also join him for select games.[1]
