Brandon D. Smith is an American Baptist theologian. He is currently Chair of the Hobbs School of Theology and Ministry, Associate Professor of Theology and Early Christianity, Dickinson Chair of Religion, and Director of Graduate Theology and Ministry Programs at Oklahoma Baptist University.[1] He also co-founded the Center for Baptist Renewal.[2]

Biography

Smith was born in Dallas, Texas and frequently posts on social media about his Dallas sports fandom.[3]

He began his ministry career serving at various churches in Texas and Tennessee while he pursued his B.A. in Biblical Studies at Dallas Baptist University, his M.A. in Bible and Theology at Criswell College, and his Ph.D. in Theology at Ridley College, Melbourne.[4]

His notable contributions to evangelical theology and church life include overseeing the launch of the best-selling Christian Standard Bible translation,[5][6] and as an award-winning author and editor of several books. His edited volume The Trinity in the Canon won The Gospel Coalition’s Academic Theology Book of the Year Award[7] and was a finalist for Christianity Today’s Award of Merit.[8] He has also written for popular publications such as First Things, The Gospel Coaliton, and Christianity Today, and has published peer-reviewed articles in major academic journals.[9][10][11][12]
