Chris Como (born c. 1980) is an American professional golf instructor known for integrating biomechanics and sports science into modern golf coaching. He has worked with top PGA Tour players including Tiger Woods, Bryson DeChambeau, and Xander Schauffele.

Biography

Como grew up in Southern California. He pursued graduate-level biomechanical studies at Texas Woman’s University and contributed research articles to the journal Sports Biomechanics. Early in his career, he apprenticed with instructors such as David Leadbetter, Mac O’Grady, Hank Haney, and Dr. Stuart McGill.[1]

Como initially gained attention for his analytical teaching methods and placement on Golf Magazine’s Top 100 Teachers list beginning in 2013.

Tiger Woods

In 2014, Como began serving as a swing consultant to Tiger Woods. Media coverage from The New York Times noted that Woods sought a more scientific and biomechanical approach.[2] ESPN also profiled Como’s role, describing his methods and influence.[3]

Bryson DeChambeau

In 2019, Como began working with Bryson DeChambeau. CNN and Golf Digest covered their work during the COVID‑19 lockdown as Como helped increase DeChambeau’s driving distance by more than 30 yards, contributing to his 2020 U.S. Open win.[4][5]

Xander Schauffele

In late 2023, Como began working with Xander Schauffele. Under his guidance, Schauffele won both the 2023 U.S. Open and the 2024 Open Championship.[6]

Instructional work

Como is host of coaching programs such as Swing Expedition with Chris Como and Como Concepts on Golf Channel and GolfPass. He serves as Director of Instruction at Dallas National Golf Club and is the owner of the Como Coaching Academy at The Nelson in Dallas, Texas.

Coaching philosophy

Como emphasizes biomechanics, data analysis, and personalized training plans. His approach relies on tools like force plates, 3D motion capture, and launch monitors to adapt instruction to each golfer’s unique physical characteristics.
