Christopher Powney (born 1968) is a British ballet professional, best known for his transformative leadership as Artistic Director and CEO of The Royal Ballet School (2014–2024). A former dancer turned educator, teacher and Artistic Director, he has played a major role in shaping the next generation of ballet talent.
🎓 Early Life & Dance Career • Began dance at age 12 and transitioning to classical ballet. • Attended Royal Academy of Dance classes, then enrolled at Rambert School at 16. • As a professional dancer, he danced with Northern Ballet, English National Ballet, and Rambert Dance Company, performing leading roles and collaborating with choreographers like Rudolf Nureyev, Christopher Bruce, Glen Tetley, Jiří Kylián, Lynn Seymour, Christopher Gable, and Frederick Franklin. • Won an Olivier Award for Outstanding Achievement in Dance as part of Rambert’s London performance season.
