Joel Esteban (born 7 August 2005) is a Spanish Grand Prix motorcycle racer for CFMoto Aspar Team in the 2025 Moto3 World Championship.[1]
Career
[edit]European Talent Cup
[edit]In 2021, Esteban's debut season in the European Talent Cup, he managed to step onto the podium in his first race at Circuito do Estoril, which was his only podium of the season, he finished 8th in the championship with 85 points, with his impressive performance catching the attention of the Aspar Junior Team, which signed him for the 2022 European Talent Cup.
Esteban had an electric season, secured three consecutive victories, accompanied by four additional podiums. However, he was plagued by medical issues and was unable to contend for the championship, but despite this he came runner-up to the title with 158 points.
FIM JuniorGP World Championship
[edit]In 2023, he moved up to the FIM JuniorGP World Championship, adding four more podiums to his résumé, including two victories, a pole position. He finished 4th in the championship with 132 points.
He returned to JuniorGP for the 2025 FIM JuniorGP World Championship with Aspar Junior Team, after a frustrating Moto3 season in 2024
Moto3 World Championship
[edit]2024
[edit]For 2024, Esteban made the leap to the Moto3 World Championship with the CFMoto Aspar Team and partnered the seasons record-breaking champion David Alonso. The Spaniard started off well with a string of strong point scoring finishes, including a fourth at the 2024 French motorcycle Grand Prix. However, his form tailed off in the second half of the season which was the deciding factor to not renew his contract for 2025. Due to injury he couldn't compete in the final round of the championship at the 2024 Solidarity motorcycle Grand Prix and was replaced by Marcos Uriarte. Esteban finished the season in 17th with 45 points.[2][3]
2025
[edit]After a difficult season, Esteban would serve as a replacement rider for the 2025 Moto3 World Championship. Esteban would first replace Jacob Roulstone at Red Bull KTM Tech3, who missed the first two rounds of the season due to a neck injury sustained at a private training session.[4]
At the 2025 Thailand motorcycle Grand Prix, Esteban came in 9th while at the 2025 Argentine motorcycle Grand Prix he would come in 16th.
Not long after, he was called up at CFMoto Aspar Team to replace Máximo Quiles from the fourth round and onwards after a medical check ahead of the Qatar Grand Prix weekend revealed a thumb fracture, sustained during a pre-weekend training incident but initially overlooked. Unfortunately Esteban would retire from the 2025 Qatar motorcycle Grand Prix[5]
