Mandahla Rose is an Australian actress, best known for the films All About E (2015),[2][3] Forever Not Maybe (2020) and For the Love of Jessee (2020). Her work in Forever Not Maybe and the short film The Paradise Road (2024) saw her win Best Actress awards in 2020 and 2024. Her other notable credits include the multi-award-winning[4] Australian/British film Oranges and Sunshine (2010).[5]
Career
[edit]Parts in commercials and music videos led to small parts in films, including Oranges and Sunshine alongside Emily Watson,[6] and eventually to Rose landing the lead role in the 2015 independent film All About E (directed by Louise Wadley).[7]
The success of that film[8] helped Rose make connections in Los Angeles,[2] where she relocated to in 2016.[9] Once in California, she picked up more work, including lead roles in the films For the Love of Jessee (2020)[10] and Forever Not Maybe (2020), the latter of which landed her a Best Actress award at NoHo Cinefest.[11] But where she is most often seen is playing lesbian characters in short films[12][2] and web series,[13][14][15][16][17][18][9][19] of which she has appeared in more than 15 of the former and 10 of the latter to date, including Crazy Bitches (2019),[20] the Emmy Award-winning Venice: the Series (2019–2025)[21] and The Paradise Road (2024), for which she won Best Actress at the 10th Hollywood International Diversity Film Festival in 2024.[22] February 2025 saw Rose reprise the character of Zoë in Season 7 of Venice: the Series, after the web series had a six-year hiatus.[21]
Rose also has credits for work behind the camera, usually as a production assistant or 1st assistant camera, but also as assistant director and other technical roles.[23]
Early life
[edit]Rose lived in foster care from the age of six. At the age of eight, she was placed with two nuns, from the Dominican Order, which became a long-term foster placement. She lived with them until the age of 19.[3][9][24]
Personal life
[edit]Rose is a lesbian.[25] She dated bisexual actress Nicole Pacent (Criminal Minds)[26] for several years after they met at Clexacon 2018.[27] They both appeared in the 2019 web series Passage.[17]
