Michael Afanasyev (рус. Михаил Афанасьев, born February 1, 1995, in Stavropol, Russia) is a Russian composer, sound designer, and music producer, best known for his work in film and video game music.[1] He gained recognition primarily through the foundation of the Russian production music library Imagine Music.[2] Currently lives in Los Angeles.

From 2020 to 2024, Michael Afanasyev curated the course “Music for Visual Media” at the Sound Design Institute,[3] and taught music theory there as well.[4] He was also a faculty member at the Moscow Film School.[5]

In 2018, the premiere trailer for Godzilla: King of the Monsters, which included music composed by Michael Afanasyev,[6] won a Bronze award at the Clio Entertainment Awards.[7] In 2019, the trailer for the third season of Stranger Things, featuring his music, was also nominated for a Clio Award.
