Pillanka is a village Thallarevu Mandal, Kakinada District.[1]
It is 8 km from the mandal headquarters, Tallarevu, and 36 km from the nearest town, Kakinada.
Statstics
[edit]According to the 2001 census, the village had a population of 3,072.[2] Of these, 1,566 were males and 1,506 were females, and there were 801 residential households in the village.
As per the 2011 Census of India, the village has a population of 2508 and a population spread over an area of 807 hectares. The village has 680 households. The male population is 1264 and the female population is 1244. The Scheduled Castes population is 1524 and the Scheduled Tribes population is 24. The village's census location code is 587736.[3].
Village history
[edit]Pillanka - It is located 7 km from Yanam, a union territory, 25 km from Kakinada. It is a village on the banks of the Godavari River. It is one of the Lanka villages. The name Pillanka is derived from the words Pilla Lanka. Pillanka means small Lanka. There is also a big Lanka.
The village of Lanka, located on the other side of the Godavari River opposite Yanam, is called Upto Lanka, which means the opposite Lanka.
Also here Kolanka (Konalanka) at the end of Lanka-Kolanka has become. There are many Lankan villages here. There is a bus facility from Kakinada to this Pillanka. On one side is Godavari, on the other side is canals, rice fields, ponds, coconut trees, it has a village atmosphere. Agriculture is the main occupation. Currently, shrimp ponds are being cultivated extensively. This is a lush green village with abundant water resources.The flood that hit in November 1996 devastated all these areas. The people here still shudder when they remember that disaster. It took more than a decade to recover from that disaster.
Due to globalization, no young people want to live here anymore. Only the elderly and their aging parents are found here. Only the elderly and elderly parents are seen here. Here the Kshatriyas are mostly farmers. Their influence is greater socially. Their influence from ancient times, the old customs and rituals are visible. Every year the Sankranti festival is celebrated here happily. Family members from all over the world travel from cities to their homes and celebrate the festival with joy.
