Progress Nkwachukwu Chukwuyem (born December 29, 2000) is a Nigerian singer, songwriter and performer. He rose to prominence as the winner of Season 7 of Nigerian Idol in 2022..[1] [2] .[3] Since then, he has released several singles and an EP [4] [5] [6], and collaborated with gospel artists such as Tim Godfrey. [7]
Early life and education
[edit]Progress was born in Warri, Delta State, Nigeria, into a Christian family as the third of six children. He began singing in church and local events from a young age, with love and support from his family.[8]
In 2015, he won a gospel singing competition Gospel Rocks On Stage, and the following year (2016), he won Take the Stage Nigeria, both held in Warri. These experiences motivated him to audition for Nigerian Idol, where he emerged winner in 2022.[9] [10]
Career
[edit]Progress gained national attention after winning Season 7 of Nigerian Idol in May 2022 [11] [12] [13]
Within the same year, he released his debut single “Lift Me Up” [14] followed by “JO” in late 2022. [15] In January 2024, he released “Follow You,” [16] and in November 2024, he released his debut EP This Is My Exodus, which features six tracks, including lead single “All Power Belongs to God” and “My Exodus” featuring The Unbeatable Choir.
He has also contributed music to Nigerian film soundtracks, including Love Eternal from Broken Hallelujah [17], and Whispers from Tehilah , collaborating with artists like Peterson Okopi, Victor Thompson, and producer / songwriter Cobhams Asuquo.
In 2023, he featured on gospel singer Tim Godfrey’s track “Yeshua.” [18] He has performed at national events such as the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), Make Music Lagos, and Trendupp Awards.
