MiraBook

The MiraBook was a 13.3-inch lapdock developed by the French company Miraxess starting in 2015. Released in 2018 and discontinued in 2024, the MiraBook was designed to transform smartphones into laptop-like workstations by providing a display, keyboard, trackpad, battery, and ports, while relying on the connected smartphone for processing power.

[edit]The MiraBook featured a 13.3-inch Full HD (1080p) matte display, an aluminum chassis, and a full-sized keyboard with trackpad. It was powered by an internal battery of approximately 4,500 mAh and included a built-in USB-C cable for connecting compatible smartphones. Additional ports included USB-A, HDMI, microSD, and a 3.5 mm audio jack.
The device was compatible with mobile operating systems and environments that supported desktop-style modes, including Samsung DeX, Huawei EMUI Desktop, and Motorola Ready For, as well as devices with USB-C DisplayPort Alt Mode support such as the Steam Deck.
History
[edit]Miraxess introduced the MiraBook in 2017 following a crowdfunding campaign and prototype unveiling at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES). The product aimed to address the need for a more mobile, cost-effective, and energy-efficient computing environment by leveraging smartphones as the primary computing unit.
The MiraBook gained traction in B2B sectors, particularly among European law enforcement and industrial clients. In 2023, Miraxess raised a €2.5 million Series A round to scale its deployment in partnership with Samsung Electronics.[1]
Despite its early promise, the company went into liquidation and ceased operations in 2024, leading to the discontinuation of the MiraBook product line.
Reception

Reviews praised its solid build quality, responsive keyboard, wide device compatibility, and relatively long battery life. XDA Developers described it as a "universal lapdock" with potential to redefine mobile productivity.[2]
A user review on the subreddit r/SamsungDex noted that the MiraBook had “the best speakers of any lapdock tested,” and praised its peripheral support and durability, though it also pointed out limitations such as a recessed USB-C cable slot and lack of HDMI input.[3]
