Zehra Bilgin, (born 20 October 1989) is a London-based Turkish actress and theatre researcher.

Early Life and Education

Zehra Bilgin[1] was born on 20 Ekim 1989 in the centre of Istanbul. Her family is from Istanbul, Turkey. She graduated from the Theatre Department of Mimar Sinan University State Conservatory. Zehra began her theatre training at the age of 9 at the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Gosteri Sanatlari Merkezi, first in the children's theatre program and then in the youth theatre. She later joined the team of SHEM-TK, a community theatre company based in Sariyer. She studied Ancient Languages and Cultures at Istanbul University. She later studied at the Theatre Department of Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University State Conservatory.In 2021, she completed an MA in Contemporary Performance at the University of Greenwich.

Career

Bilgin has performed with both mainstream and alternative theatre companies in Istanbul, Berlin and London.

After graduating from the state conservatoire, she played the role of Marie in Woyzeck by Georg Büchner. She later appeared in Blu, directed by Meltem Cumbul. Following this, she performed in Animal Farm,[2] which was staged at Zorlu PSM and ran to full houses for nearly two seasons.

Following her work in Istanbul, she relocated to London to explore contemporary developments in theatre and performance. Her acting credits include ZBAM (Aufbau Haus/ Berlin Tak Theater), and Sin Eater(Cockpit Theatre, Camden Fringe).

As a director and writer, she has created several works including Contact-less (Chickenshed Theatre), Control-led (Stephen Lawrence Gallery and Bathway Theatre), and Follow.[3]

She has worked with Punchdrunk Theatre. Gecko Theatre,[4] ZU-UK[5] and Good Chance Theatre[6] in various creative roles, including acting, host, assistant, staff positions.

Teaching

Since 2023, Bilgin has worked as a drama teacher and teaching assistant at the Pauline Quirke Academy in Bethnal Green,[7] supporting young performers in developing stagecraft and creative skills.
