2001年的分类及标准（版本 3.1）	描述	1994年的分类及标准（版本 2.3）
	无危（Least Concern，缩写LC或LR/lc），威胁最低。没有比它更没有威胁的分类。虽然存在威胁但是目前并不严重。英文直译为低关注，并不是指该物种受到的关注少，而是威胁不严重，不用过分关注的意思
	近危（Near Threatened，缩写NT或LR/nt），当一分类单元未达到极危、濒危或者易危标准，但是在未来一段时间后，接近符合或可能符合受威胁等级
不再是红色名录的分类	保护依赖（Conservation Dependent，缩写LR/cd），如果停止当前的保护力度，物种可能会被划入更高危险等级的分类中

2001年的分类及标准（版本 3.1）	描述	1994年的分类及标准（版本 2.3）
	易危（Vulnerable，VU），在中期内可能有比较高的灭绝威胁。
	濒危（Endangered，EN），其野生种群在不久的将来面临绝灭的机率很高
	极危（Critically Endangered，CR），野生种群面临即将绝灭的机率非常高。

	野外绝灭（Extinct in the Wild，EW），只生活在栽培、圈养条件下或者只作为自然化种群（或种群）生活在远离其过去的栖息地时，即认为该分类单元属于野外绝灭
	数据缺乏（Data Deficient，DD），如果没有足够的资料来直接或者间接地根据一分类单元的分布或种群状况来评估其绝灭的危险程度时，即认为该分类单元属于数据缺乏。
	未予评估（Not Evaluated，NE），尚未对标准进行评估。
	可能绝灭（Possibly Extinct，PE），由国际鸟盟提供的一个类别，CR的子类。
	可能野外绝灭（Possibly Extinct in the Wild，PEW），在IUCN红色名录里使用的一个术语。CR的子类。
	绝灭（Extinct，EX），如果没有理由怀疑一分类单元的最后一个个体已经死亡，即认为该分类单元已经绝灭。
