Helina Daimary (born 8 January 1996) is an Indian actress, model, and YouTuber who primarily works in Bodo-language cinema. She hails from Simla in the Baksa district of Assam. She gained wide recognition for her performance in the award-winning Bodo film Gorai Phakhri (Wild Swans), which portrays the struggles of women in a patriarchal society affected by decades of armed conflict.
Early Life and Education
[edit]Helina Daimary was born on 8 January 1996 in Simla (Baksa), Assam. Her father’s name is Jawaharlal Daimary, and her mother’s name is Menoka Daimary. She has two siblings: Sima Daimary and Rahul Daimary.
She completed her schooling at Sunrise English School, Simla. She later pursued higher education at Krishna Kanta Handique Junior College, Pathsala, and Pragjyoti College, Guwahati.
Career
[edit]Helina began her career as an actress and model, appearing in Bodo-language films and music videos. She played one of the lead roles in Gorai Phakhri (Wild Swans), a film that won a ₹10 lakh award at the Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF) in 2023. The film had its world premiere at the Vancouver International Film Festival (VIFF) and focuses on women’s empowerment in a militarized and patriarchal setting.[1]
In 2021, she was appointed as the election brand ambassador for Baksa district to promote voter awareness ahead of the Assam Legislative Assembly elections.[2]
In 2024, she starred alongside singers Papon and Shreya Ghoshal in the trilingual music video Koi Nidiya Kiyaw, which was sung in Bodo, Tiwa, and Assamese languages.[3]
