Jeff Wessler

Jeffrey D. Wessler, known professionally as Jeff Wessler is an American cardiologist, entrepreneur, and healthcare executive. He is the founder and Chief Executive Officer[1] of Heartbeat Health, a virtual cardiology company providing nationwide cardiovascular care. Wessler is also a board-certified cardiologist and has held academic appointments at Northwell Health’s Zucker School of Medicine[2] and Columbia University’s College of Physicians & Surgeons[3].

Early life and education

Wessler was born in Andover, Massachusetts. He attended Phillips Academy Andover and later earned a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry from Williams College in 2007[4]. He subsequently completed a Master of Philosophy in Public Health from the University of Cambridge, Churchill College, in 2008[5], and received his Doctor of Medicine degree from Harvard Medical School in 2012[6]. He completed residency training, chief residency, and a cardiology fellowship at Columbia University Medical Center in New York City[7].

Career

Following his fellowship, Wessler joined the faculty at Columbia University and later at Northwell Health, where he served as a general cardiologist and was involved in academic teaching and inpatient consult services[8]. In 2017, he founded Heartbeat Health, a technology-enabled cardiology platform designed to improve access to specialty cardiovascular care through virtual services. Under his leadership, Heartbeat Health expanded across all 50 U.S. states[9] and partnered with risk-bearing entities such as health plans, primary care groups, and employers.[10][11][12]

Wessler has published peer-reviewed research on digital health[13], virtual cardiology models[14][15], and the use of wearable technology[16] in cardiovascular disease[17]. He has also been a speaker[18] at national medical and technology conferences[19] and contributes regularly to healthcare business publications[20][21], including Forbes.

Recognition

Wessler has been recognized as one of the “Top 45 Tech Titans of Healthcare”[22] and a “Top 50 Healthcare Technology CEO" [23]and a “Rock Health Top 50 in Digital Health[24].” He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and was awarded the Heart Failure Society of America's Jay Cohn New Investigator Award. In 2012, he was selected as the Harvard Medical School Commencement Day Class Speaker.

Personal life

Wessler lives in Great Neck, New York, with his wife, Elisabeth, an endodontist, and their two children. He continues to practice medicine and maintains licensure in all 50 states[25].
