Jesús Amarilla (born 27 August 2001) is a Paraguayan professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Sportivo Luqueño in the Paraguayan Primera División.
Early life
[edit]Jesús Amarilla was born on 27 August 2001 in Asunción, Paraguay. He grew up in the capital city and developed an interest in football at a young age, joining the youth academy of Club Libertad, one of Paraguay’s most successful clubs.[2] Details about his early education and family background are limited.[citation needed]
Club career
[edit]Youth career
[edit]Amarilla progressed through the youth ranks of Club Libertad, a prominent Asunción-based club known for its strong youth development program.[2] He trained in the club’s academy, competing in youth tournaments and gaining recognition for his work rate and versatility in midfield.[citation needed]
Professional career
[edit]Amarilla made his professional debut for Club Libertad in the Paraguayan Primera División in 2021, appearing as a substitute in a league match.[2] Over two seasons (2021–2023), he made five appearances for Libertad, primarily as a substitute, but struggled to secure a regular starting role due to competition in the squad. His debut was noted by Paraguayan media as a milestone for the young midfielder, though he faced challenges adapting to the pace of senior-level football.[2]
In 2023, Amarilla transferred to Sportivo Luqueño, another Primera División club, seeking more playing time. He made ten appearances and scored one goal during the 2023–2024 seasons, showing improvement in his passing and defensive contributions.[3] His first professional goal came in a league match, marking a key moment in his development.[citation needed] As of 2025, he remains with Sportivo Luqueño, aiming to establish himself as a key player.
International career
[edit]Amarilla represented Paraguay at the under-20 level, earning three caps in 2020–2021 during South American youth qualifiers.[4] He played in matches against regional opponents, showcasing his ability to control the midfield, though he did not score.[4] His international experience was limited by Paraguay’s early exit from the tournament.[citation needed] As of 2025, he has not debuted for the senior Paraguay national football team.
Playing style
[edit]Amarilla is a versatile midfielder known for his work rate, tackling, and ability to distribute the ball under pressure.[2] His physicality allows him to compete in defensive duels, while his passing supports attacking transitions. Critics note that his goal-scoring and creative output need improvement to reach elite levels in the Primera División.[citation needed]
Personal life
[edit]Amarilla resides in Asunción and is focused on his football career. Little is known about his personal interests or family, as he maintains a low public profile.[citation needed]
