Nick Jr. is a block of TV shows that is seen on Nickelodeon every weekday morning. It started playing on January 4, 1988. The shows in this block are made for preschoolers.
The separate Nick Jr. Channel is a television channel that is based on the Nick Jr. block. It is run by Paramount Global. While the original block started in 1988, the separate channel started on September 28, 2009. It is also made for preschoolers and it mostly plays shows that began on the Nickelodeon weekday block. Because of the two different entities, the channel is known on-air as "the Nick Jr. Channel" (as of May 2018) to avoid confusion, especially at times of day where both services are carrying preschool programming.
