Colin Lewis McAllister and Justin Patrick Ryan (also known as "Colin and Justin") are Scottish interior decorators and television presenters.[1][2] McAllister and Ryan have been romantic partners since 1985, they have been civil partners since 2008.[3][4]
They have pursued media careers in both the United Kingdom and Canada,[5] with numerous television appearances.[6] The pair have been noted by media outlets for their influence on the adoption of laminate flooring in British homes.[7][8]
Media career
[edit]2003–2005
[edit]An early television project for Colin and Justin was Million Pound Property Experiment, which first aired on BBC Two in the United Kingdom in 2003.[9] The series followed them as they renovated and resold properties. Their eventual profit, which was approximately £300,000, was donated to the BBC's Children in Need appeal.[citation needed]
Colin and Justin continued their home renovation shows on BBC One with Trading Up and its overseas version Trading Up in the Sun [10], alongside regular appearances on the daytime program, Housecall. During this period, they also began collaborating with the United Kingdom's Channel 5 on several shows, including the countdown series: Twenty Ways to Make Money on Your Property, How Not to Decorate,[11] and Three Celebs and a Baby, featuring Caprice.[12][13]
2006–2009
[edit]Colin and Justin took over as presenters for the second series of the Channel 5 reality show, The Farm[14]. They continued their work with the channel with Colin & Justin's Wedding Belles[15] and Colin and Justin on the Estate.[16]
Colin and Justin's Canadian television projects began with Colin and Justin's Home Heist, which featured a format similar to their earlier United Kingdom series How Not To Decorate.[17]
2010–2012
[edit]In February 2010, Colin and Justin appeared in the television series Celebrity Coach Trip.[18] From January 2011, Colin and Justin were among the presenters/decorators on 60 Minute Makeover on ITV1, fronting 24 episodes after the departure of previous host Terri Dwyer.
2014-present
[edit]The duo increased their Canadian television appearances with Colin and Justin's Cabin Pressure, which debuted in 2014 on Cottage Life and OutTV.[citation needed] They also made regular appearances on CityLine and served as red carpet correspondents for the Toronto International Film Festival on Citytv News.[citation needed]
Colin and Justin have served as judges on shows such as Canada's Game of Homes, Australia's The Block, and Reno Rumble.[citation needed]
They have also hosted their home renovation programs, including Great Canadian Cottages in 2018, Colin and Justin's Great Escapes in 2020, and Colin and Justin's Hotel Hell in 2022.[citation needed]
