Liri Albag (Hebrew: לירי אלבג) is an Israeli woman serving in Israel Defense Forces who was kidnapped in Nahal Oz during October 7 attacks by Hamas

Biography

She was born in Matan[1], she is 20 years old and is the daughter of Shira and Eli Elbag with three brothers, she participated in serving as an observer at the Nahal Oz outpost and two days after completing her course Hamas launched Operation Al-Aqsa Flood[2]

Kidnapping

She served as a guard at the Nahal Oz base that was Attacked by Hamas starting a shootout and they took her and 16 other militants in a military jeep to Gaza Strip[3][4]

According to Amit Soussana, she saved his life by telling Hamas that Soussana does not belong to Israel Defense Forces[1][5]

Captivity in Gaza Strip

During his captivity she met with Naama Levy, she asked for candles and declared "that the only thing he did not lose was Judaism"[3]

The Al-Qassam Brigades published a video where Albag states that "the Israeli army's military operations will not succeed in rescuing the captives."[6]

Release

On 24 January 2025, Hamas announced that Albag and three other female IDF soldiers would be released the next day as part of the hostage exchange during the 2025 Gaza war ceasefire. For each female soldier released by Hamas, Israel agreed to release 50 Palestinian prisoners it held, of whom 30 were serving life sentences.[7][8]

On January 25, Albag and fellow IDF observers Naama Levy, Karina Ariev, and Daniella Gilboa were handed over by Hamas to the Red Cross in Palestine Square in Gaza.[9][10][11]

After his release

She declared her intention to return to the Israel Defense Forces and to "Kill her kidnapper."[12]

During Operation True Promise III she stated that the Iranian intelligence only knows Israel from photos and that we should not publish photos of Israel[13]
