Episode Summaries

The Girl Who Won't Stop Talking

Original air date: February 28, 2007

The cycle begins with the arrival of 33 contestants in Los Angeles, where they are immediately thrown into model boot camp. They meet Mr. and Ms. Jay, who tests them with a quick photoshoot and a quizzing session on fashion-related knowledge. Later that day, they meet Tyra.

After the boot camp, castings start, after which the pool of girls is pared down to 20. The final 20 are then treated to a Marc Ecko party. At the party, the 20 each have their pictures taken, and the final 13 girls are chosen based on these photos.

The next day, the girls meet Jay Manuel, who has arranged their first photoshoot with photographer and judge Nigel Barker. They are each given a controversial social issue along themes such as pro-choice, gay marriage and anti-gun.

For the week's reward challenge, the girls are taken to Goodwill of Southern California, where they are given 3 minutes to put together an outfit which personifies their personal style before walking down the runway. At the end of the show, each girl's outfit would be auctioned off to raise money for Goodwill. Jael's outfit receives the highest bid, hence winning the challenge and giving her the right to sign her name on the cheque.

At panel, the judges feel that Jael and Kathleen both failed to commit during their photoshoots, and they end up in the bottom two. The judges criticize Jael for her apparent fear of success, but decide that she has more potential than Kathleen and the latter is eliminated.
