Nikolas Khoury (born April 5, 1986) is a Jordanian media personality and political satirist, best known for presenting the Al-Sulait news program.[1]

Personal life

[edit]

Nicholas Khoury was born on April 5, 1986 in Amman, Jordan, to a Palestinian father and a Syrian mother. Khoury grew up in Jordan throughout his life, but he always considered the Palestinian cause his ultimate cause. He grew up with the dream of restoring Palestinian usurped rights. In 2004, he began studying mechatronics engineering at Hashemite University. Khoury frequently highlights human rights and activist issues, and describes the Palestinian cause and the deaths of innocent people there as the only issue on which he admits to being "dictatorial" and does not accept any discussion.[citation needed]

Career

[edit]

In 2012, he joined Kharabeesh Network and began working with the n2o comedy team on the production side until comedian and fellow crew member Rajai Qawas asked him to host an episode of the show. It was met with great acclaim from the Jordanian audience and the entire crew, leading Nicholas Khoury to become an independent presenter on this satirical comedy team.[2]

In 2014, Nicolas Khoury and a number of his colleagues in the satirical field, including Mahmoud Darwazah, Laith Al-Abbadi, Mohammed Zakarneh, and Nadeem Al-Masry, split from the Kharabeesh network and established another channel called Arab Comics. This channel includes two programs: a satirical program presented by all members of the channel, and Cowabunga, which addresses purely social issues and problems such as sexual harassment and its prevalence in Jordan and the lack of respect for women's rights. It is presented by Nicolas Khoury. In 2015, Khoury moved to Al Jazeera Plus and began his independent project. On January 3, 2015, the first episode of his news program, Al-Saleet, aired. It is a satirical political program that addresses political events in a comedic manner.[3]
