PopUp Painting is a UK-based company that offers 'sip and paint' experiences, often referred to as social painting events. The company was established in 2013, the business is a mix of art, entertainment and socializing in a casual setting, making painting more approachable to people with little to no prior experience. Events are hosted in bars and restaurants across major UK cities including London, Birmingham,[1] Manchester[2] and Leeds[3]
Overview
[edit]PopUp Painting events often feature a painting theme and inspiration is drawn from well-known artists such as Van Gogh, Monet or Frida Khalo. Attendees are guided step-by-step through the paintings by professional artists while drinking wine[4] or Prosecco. The format is designed to facilitate creative freedom rather than focusing on technical art skills. Each session provides all materials and ends with participants keeping their finished artwork.
PopUp Painting states that it aims to make art accessible to everyone[5] using the slogan 'no experience needed'[6] and by hosting events in bars and restaurants rather than traditional classroom settings.
History
[edit]PopUp Painting was co-founded by entrepreneurs[7] intending to combine creativity with a fun night out.[8] Since its founding in 2013, PopUp Painting has facilitated thousands of events and reached tens of thousands of participants throughout the UK. It was an early innovator of the paint and sip concept in the UK.[9]
In 2021 PopUp Painting opened up the first art bar hosting sip and paint events. The London Art Bar[10] now host many of their London Sip and Paint events in London, along with other experiences.
