Probir Roy Chowdhury is a fictional former Kolkata Police officer. The character is portrayed by Prosenjit Chatterjee and was first introduced in Baishe Srabon (2011) and reintroduced in Dawshom Awbotaar (2023).[1][2][3][4]

Film Appearances

[edit]

Baishe Srabon

[edit]

Probir Roy Chowdhury is an ex-DCP, who has been dismissed from his service on the charge of custodial murder. However, when a serial killer is on the loose in the city, killing innocents and leaving pieces of poetry on the sites of murder, Roy Chowdhury is brought back in service, owing to his reputation of solving a number of infamous serial-killing cases. He teams up with Abhijit Pakrashi in investigating the case. At the end of the film, Roy Chowdhury reveals himself as the killer and kills himself.

[edit]

Even after eight years of Roy Chowdhury's death, it still haunts Pakrashi. However, in the public, he had announced Roy Chowdhury as the killer and had taken full credit of solving that case. Archived footages of Prosenjit Chatterjee as Roy Chowdhury were used in the film.

The film also had a cameo appearance of Babul Supriyo as Pranob Roy Chowdhury, Probir's elder brother, who had ruthless techniques of investigation and had passed it on to Probir as well.

Dawshom Awbotaar

[edit]

Chowdhury reappeared in a lead role in the 2023 prequel, Dawshom Awbotaar, where he, along with Bijoy Poddar, solves a case of a serial killer who thinks himself as the Kalki avatar.

Future

[edit]

Probir is set to return, along with Poddar, in two more films in future. At the end of Dawshom Awbotaar, a clear hint was given that Probir-Poddar duo has again been brought on board to investigate a new case of serial killing in Kolkata.
