Indestructible is the upcoming fourth studio album by American alternative metal band Disturbed.[2] The band had kept quiet about the album to the public, although the band's MySpace page and official website were both updated, stating that they were currently in studio recording and that they were busy writing new songs for the album. The album is currently set to be released on June 3,2008.[3]

Development

In an interview with "The Big Rock Show", Disturbed's guitarist Dan Donegan stated that their new album will be a lot "ballsier" than their previous albums and that the band is trying to mix the elements of the earlier records into something new and fresh.[4]

David Draiman stated in an interview with MTV that the album “seems to have taken on a darker, more evil character than the previous albums. It’s more furiously paced and complex." He also said, "Producing the record ourselves has been a learning experience that will serve the record well.”[2]

Draiman's inspiration for the album was from "bad luck" that had occurred over the past few years, including a motorcycle accident, a garage burning that destroyed most of his vehicles,a suicide incident and a number of "bad relationships." Draiman has said that he anticipated the following tracks to be on the record: "The Night," "Run," "Deceiver," "Enough," "Inside the Fire" and "Torn".[2] It is also possible that a cover of Faith No More's hit song "Midlife Crisis" will be released as a B-side track.[2]

In an earlier interview, Draiman said that they are going to record 15 songs, but will only put 12 songs on the album.[5] According to Disturbed's official website, the band headed out to Los Angeles for the mixing stage, which started on November 29, 2007[6] and finished recording in early December 2007.[7]

A thirty-second sample of a "new" track, which was a re-recording of "Perfect Insanity", was released on their MySpace page on February 26, 2008, and the whole track became available for download on their official website on March 7, 2008.[8] The track has been confirmed to be on the album. The first single, "Inside the Fire"[9] began airing on the radio on March 24, 2008. One day later, the single was released for download on the iTunes Store and Amazon.com.

A trailer for the album can be viewed on YouTube[10], and features short segments of the tracks "Inside the Fire", "Perfect Insanity", "The Night", and "Indestructible". There is a special "Internet Only Limited Edition" of the album that includes the B-side track "Run", a making-of DVD with instructional videos, wrap around poster, VIP laminate, access to special Disturbed events and a special website with exclusive video, rare audio and more.[11]

On April 18, 2008, Draiman had an interview with MTV's Headbanger's Blog website. During this interview, Draiman talks about the Rockstar Mayhem tour, the torrents of aggression behind the album; the meaning of the album title; his past battles with substances and circumstance; his experience playing for U.S. troops overseas and the betrayal he’s encountered in his search for a soul mate.[12]

On May 2, 2008, the band released the music video for "Inside The Fire"[13], which can be viewed on their official website and the Ultimate Guitar Archive.

On May 6, 2008, a special iTunes Deluxe edition of the album became available for pre-order in the iTunes Music Store. The Deluxe package features the standard track listing, as well as four live bonus tracks and a digital booklet. "Perfect Insanity" was also released as a single for digital download on iTunes. On May 14, 2008, iTunes began featuring a "Standard" edition of the album, which featured the standard track listing, one live bonus track (only available with pre-orders), and a digital booklet.

On May 15, 2008, an import edition of Indestructible appeared on Amazon.com, and despite featuring only the standard track listing, costs almost five times the standard pressing and is not produced by Warner Bros, but rather Phantom Sound & Vision.[14]

On May 17, 2008, a commercial to promote the album surfaced on YouTube, which features "Inside the Fire" as music. The commercial depicts the mascot for Disturbed, The Guy, in flames as it transforms into the Indestructible cover art.[15]

On May 21, 2008, a special pre-order edition of this album was released in Disturbed's official webstore. This edition only featured 9 of the original tracks, but the tenth was the second b-side "Midlife Crisis". If you pre-order this edition, you can also save money on two shirts.[16]

On May 23, 2008, a "listening party" at Hot Topic locations took place, where the album was played, just under two weeks before its release.[17]
