Roberto Longoria

Judge Roberto E. Longoria is a judge of the Los Angeles County Superior Court in California, United States. He primarily presides over criminal proceedings. His department is Department G of the Pasadena Courthouse. He is a registered democrat.

Early life

Roberto Longoria grew up in the Boyle Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles, raised by immigrant parents.

Education

Longoria received an undergraduate degree from the University of California, Los Angeles. He also got his Juris Doctor from Loyola Law School in 1990.

Career

Public Defender

Roberto Longoria served as a trial attorney for the Orange County Public Defender's Office from 1992 to 1994. From 1994 to 2006 he served as a senior trial attorney for the Los Angeles County Public Defender's Office. In 2006 he went into private practice as a sole practitioner and remained in private practice until his appointment as a judge.

Judge

In 2011 Longoria was appointed to the Los Angeles County Superior Court as a judge by then California governor Jerry Brown. The position was left vacant when John Kronstadt was appointed to a U.S. District Court. In 2014 he ran for re-election and won by default as the only incumbent. He ran for re-election in the 2020 election and won as the only incumbent on March 3, 2020. His current term will end January 4, 2027. Judge Longoria told the Daily Journal on September 6, 2022 that he strives to be compassionate.
