Sabrina Durán Montero, simply known as Sabrina Durán or Ina Durán (1999 – 23 October 2023) was a Chilean digital content creator, and social media influencer, who was once convicted of drug trafficking. Duran used the internet website TikTok to reach her audiences.[1] She was shot and killed while outside in Padre Hurtado, Chile.

Biography

Durán was born in Recoleta, Chile, as the daughter of Luis Enrique Durán.[2] Later, she moved to Peňarol.

From a young age she was noticed by the police: initially she committed car thefts, while in 2017 was arrested while traveling in a vehicle with a man carrying cocaine and sentenced to probation;[3] in 2019, she was arrested again for stealing a vehicle's rearview mirror, sentenced to 41 days in prison;[4] in 2022 she was under investigation as one of the country's most wanted drug traffickers, subsequently arrested and sentenced to three years and one day of imprisonment in the local San Miguel Women's Penitentiary Center; in any case, having accepted the abbreviated procedure, she was placed on probation a month before her death.[5][6] The investigative police had also identified her as the leader of one of the gangs linked to the clashes and shootings that kept the inhabitants of the town on alert since 2021.[7][8][9]

In prison, she began to get noticed on social media, through videos and other material.[10] Because of her ties to drugs, she was nicknamed "Drug Queen" (Reina de la droga), "Narco Queen" (Reina Narco) and "Narco Influencer" by her followers, and was at the same time known under identities such as "Juakina Guzmán" and "Sabina Godoy Montero", with whom she was called on social media.[11] As an influencer, she shared moments of her life, fashion tips, use of products, with a large amount of followers on Tiktok and other platforms.[12][13] After her release, she devoted herself totally to social media.[14]

Personal life

Durán had a son after turning 13, from her first relationship, which ended after some time as her partner was arrested for drug dealing.[15] Her second relationship ended with the death of her boyfriend in an armed confrontation with the police as he was also a drug dealer.[16]

During her detention in 2022, she began a relationship with Antonella Marchant, also arrested as a member of a local crime clan. Their relationship ended with Durán's death in 2023.[17]

Death

On 23 October 2023 in the morning,[18] aged 24, Durán was heading to a nail salon in Padre Hurtado when she was approached by three men who firstly stole her car, then one of them shot her several times in the chest and head, killing her.[19][20][21] The scene was filmed by some people and the videos went viral in a short time.[22][23][24]

Transported to a medical center in the Santa Rosa de Chena area, she was pronounced dead.[25][26]

Investigations

Investigations into Durán's death were opened after her death. Local police said that one of the probable causes of the murder was a settling of scores between local criminal gangs.[27][28][29]

Funeral

Chilean police considered her funeral services to be of high risk to safety, but, apart from five people who were detained during the event, it was carried without further incident. There were 90 policemen as well as various police vehicles present at her funeral.[30]
