Sajjad Akram is a retired senior officer of the Pakistan Army who served as Chief of General Staff at the GHQ, commanded the I Corps at Mangla, and led the United Nations Mission in Sierra Leone (UNAMSIL) as Force Commander. Following retirement, he served as Chairman of the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC).[1]

Early life and education

Akram was born on 5 April 1954 in Hyderabad, Sindh. He joined the Pakistan Army in 1971 and was commissioned into the Baloch Regiment. He is a graduate of the Command and Staff College, Quetta and the National Defence College in Islamabad.[2]

Military career

In October 2003, Akram was appointed as Force Commander of the United Nations Mission in Sierra Leone (UNAMSIL), a post he held until September 2005.[3]

In 2006, he was appointed Corps Commander of I Corps, Mangla, one of the Pakistan Army’s principal strike formations.[4]

He later served as Chief of General Staff at GHQ, overseeing strategic military operations and planning.[2]

He retired from military in 2010.[5]

Post-retirement

After retiring from active service, Akram was appointed as Chairman of the Punjab Public Service Commission in 2013, a position he held until 2018.[6]
