St. John the Baptist Diocesan High School is a private, Roman Catholic high school in West Islip, New York. It is operated by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Rockville Centre.

Faculty
Students must be able to see their teachers as role-models. More than educators of the mind, the faculty at St. John's commits themselves to be “teachers” in every sense of the word.
- student to teacher ratio is approximately 16:1, this allows students to learn in a more close and caring atmosphere.
- Faculty members at St. John’s are required to possess a Master’s Degree, have New York State Teacher Certification, and each is expected to continue on in the educational journey by participating in post-Master’s work, doctoral studies, conferences and workshops.
- Sisters of St. Francis, Sisters of St. Dominic and lay women and men are also faculty members at St. Johns.
Uniform
All students must wear the official school uniform appropriate for season, grade year, and gender to school.
- During the summer months (September, May, June) students may wear their official school polo shirt. White for freshmen and sophomore boys and girls. Navy blue for senior and junior boys and girls.
- During the months of October and April and on Fridays throughout the winter, students may elect to wear their school sweater or sweater-vest. Gray for freshmen and sophomore boys and girls. Navy blue for senior and junior boys and girls.

Academics
- The basic curriculum includes required courses in Religious Studies, English, Social Studies and Physical Education; Mathematics, Science, French Italian, or Spanish; Health, Art or Preforming Arts and Computer Science.
- All students graduate with a New York State Advanced Regents diploma after successfully completing the Regents examinations.
- A student receives a report card four times during the school year, as well as Progres Reports . Final grades are determined by calculating 80% of the four quarterly grades and 20% of the Regents Exam, Midterm Exam, or Final Exam.
- Three levels of classes are offered at St. Johns. Honors, Advanced Placement and St. John’s University courses are offered for the gifted. Students placed the SJB Honors program can work to earn 30 college credits (one year of college) before graduating from St. John’s.
- St. Johns places significant academic demands upon every student, above all, emphasis is placed on hard work, integrity and discipline, realizing that today’s students need to be academically prepared for tomorrow’s university study.
- SJB Freshmen are required to take Keyboarding (which can be replaced by Performing Arts classes), English, Global Studies, Earth Science*, Algebra, Religion, Physical Education, and Foreign Language. Freshman can defer taking Keyboarding until their sophomore, junior, or senior year if desired.
- SJB Sophomores are required to take a Performing Arts/Art class, English, Global Studies, Biology, Math A/B, Religion (1/2 yr.), Health (1/2 yr.), Physical Education, and Foreign Language.

- SJB Juniors are required to take English, US History, Chemistry*, Math A/B, Religion, Physical Education and a Foreign Language. SJB Juniors are required to take one elective. However, some juniors may be able to be exempt from taking a Foreign Language if they take the language regents during the spring of their sophmore year.
- SJB Seniors are required to take English, 2 Social Studies 1/2 yr. courses, 2 Religion 1/2 yr. courses, Physical Education. SJB Seniors are required to take four electives.

- St. John the Baptist has a very advanced performing arts and musical program for a Catholic School. The five main performing instrumental groups are the Concert-Marching Band, Orchestra, Select Jazz Ensemble, Select Chamber Ensemble and Select Wind Ensemble. The five main performing choral groups are Chorus, Women's Chorale, MOVE (Men's Outstanding Vocal Ensemble), Danceworks, and The Company dance group.
- St. John's has a fully functional student art gallery for all student work to be displayed for the school.
- St. John's has a notable musical-drama production program. The last school musical, "Crazy For You" was awarded the top production in New York State. Some musical productions put on by SJB students and faculty include "Godspell", "Anything Goes", "Bye Bye Birdie", "Footloose", "Peter Pan", and "The Sound of Music".
- St. John the Baptist has a fully functional Marching Band program. The Marching Band performs half-time shows and pep band music at all home and playoff football games. The band is also seen in annual St. Patrick's Day Parades in Mineola, Bay Shore, and New York City.

- The St. John’s athletic program starts with varsity competition.
- men’s and women’s teams compete at regional and state levels in 18 sports.
- St. Johns believes that sports are a very important part of a sound education - that they teach lessons in discipline, preparation, teamwork and competitiveness that translate into the principles of success in life. Sports encourage athletes to develop physically while also learning the value of good sportsmanship.
- SJB directors, coaches, and assistants are committed to a program based on healthy training and preparation, commitment and hard work.
- St. John the Baptist is a proud member of the Nassau-Suffolk Catholic High School Athletic Association (NSCHSAA)of New York. Common competitors of St. John the Baptist High School include Chaminade, St. Dominic High School, Kellenberg Memorial High School, Holy Trinity Diocesan High School, St. Mary's High School, Our Lady of Mercy Academy, Academy of St. Joseph, St. Anthony's High School, and Sacred Heart Academy, St. Francis Prep, Archbishop Molloy High School, and The Mary Louis Academy.
Teams:
St. John the Baptist has a notable sports rivalry with St. Anthony's High School. This is due to a number of competitive games in the past, the relatively close geography between the two schools, and the fact that both schools are usually in the top 2-3 teams in their league in almost every sport.
