Saurav Rai is a Mumbai based film director and screenwriter.

Nimtoh / Invitation, his debut feature film had its international premiere at the Rotterdam International Film Festival, 2020 in Bright Future Main Programme.[1] It also won the Grand Jury Prize for Screenwriting at the 2019, JIO MAMI Film Festival for Screenwriting.[2]

Guras, his sophomore feature received the Hubert Bals Fund (2021) for Screenplay development from the Rotterdam International Film Festival.[3] It world premiered at the 57th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, 2023, where it won the Special Jury Prize of the Proxima Competition.[4] It further premiered at the 28th Busan International Film Festival,[5] Golden Horse Taipei - NETPAC Competition[6] CinemaAsia Netherland Premiere,[7] Zabaykalsky International Film Festival - Winner of the main Look competition,[8] Dharamshala International Film Festival ,[9] and South Asia Premiere in the JIO MAMI Mumbai International Film Festival.[10]

Early life and education

Saurav Rai graduated in Mass Communication & Journalism from the North Point College, Darjeeling 2010. Saurav completed his post graduation in screenwriting and film direction from Satyajit Ray Film & T.V Institute, Kolkata.

GUDH/NEST his diploma film competed at the 69th Cannes International Film Festival in the La Cinef Competition Section in 2016,[11] the film received National Award for best film editing (Non-Fiction) 2016 64th National Film Awards.

Career

Saurav’s debut Nepali feature film The Invitation/Nimtoh got selected for the NFDC FilmBazaar Work in Progress Lab 2019 where it won the Prasad DI+Quebe Wire DCP Award.[12] The film also got selected at the Hong Kong Asian Film Financing Forum Work In Progress Lab, where it won the 2020HAF Goes to Cannes Award.[13] After world premiering at the Rotterdam International Film Festival, the film travelled to 30+ international film festivals and was the Closing Night film of the 34th Images Festival, Canada 2020.[14]

As of 2025, Saurav is developing his hindi language feature film LANKA and recently got invited at the Hong Kong Asian Film Financing Forum, In-Development Project 2025.[15]
