Sherif Bishara (also spelled Sherif Beshara) is an Egyptian legal and business executive who serves as Group Chief Executive Officer of the Mohamed & Obaid Al Mulla Group of Companies, a Dubai-based family-owned conglomerate. He is noted for his leadership of the American Hospital Dubai, a major private healthcare institution in the Middle East. Bishara has held senior legal and executive roles across multiple sectors, including healthcare, aviation, finance, and hospitality.[1][2][3]

Early life and education

Sherif Bishara holds a master’s degree in international law and completed an Executive MBA at the Georgetown University McDonough School of Business in Washington, D.C.

He began his career in private legal practice in Egypt in 1999, later moving into corporate legal and leadership roles across finance, aviation, and healthcare sectors in the MENA region.[4]

Career

Early legal career From 2006 to 2010, Bishara worked as Legal Counsel at Barclays Bank in Egypt. In October 2012, he joined Air Arabia in the UAE as Head of Legal, a position he held until 2017.[5][6]

Mohamed & Obaid Al Mulla Group In 2017, Bishara joined the Mohamed & Obaid Al Mulla Group as Group General Counsel. He was promoted to Group Chief Legal Officer and appointed Group CEO by late 2018.[7]. As CEO, he oversees a diverse portfolio of businesses, including American Hospital Dubai, hospitality ventures, travel services, and real estate, with primary responsibility for strategy, corporate compliance, governance, and internal auditing.[8][9][10][11]

Key initiatives Under his leadership, American Hospital Dubai partnered with Cerner Corporation to establish the region’s first AI research center in healthcare in 2020.[10] Bishara also guided the group's hospitality expansion, including the acquisition of Ishraq Hospitality. [12] [13] [14]. He facilitated collaborations between American Hospital Dubai and Al-Futtaim Health, overseeing operations of HealthHub clinics, pharmacies, and an aesthetic clinic. [15][16][17]

Technological innovation and healthcare expansion Under Bishara’s direction, American Hospital Dubai introduced advanced robotic surgical systems and new specialty centers, such as a Hernia Center and medical tourism hub in Lagos in 2024. [18] [19]. The hospital also pioneered robotic and AI-enabled care, including establishing the DaVinci Surgical System, ROSA® Knee System, Halcyon® radiation therapy, and Mazor X Robotic Guidance for spinal procedures.[20][21][22]

Board and advisory roles Bishara was appointed to the Board of Trustees of the Noor Foundation by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum[23]

Bishara was ranked among Forbes Middle East’s Top CEOs in 2021, 2022, and 2023.[7][24][25] He was also featured in the Forbes Middle East's Top 100 Healthcare Leaders in 2022, 2023 and 2024.[19][8][26]

Bishara was also named in Arabian Business’s “Dubai 100: Meet the 100 People You Need to Know” (2024)[27]

Bishara he was recognized by Legal 500 Middle East (2016–17) and also recognized by CEO Today as one of the region’s leading CEO's.[28]
