The Eurovision Song Contest 2026 will be the 70th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. It is set to take place in Austria, following the country's victory at the 2025 contest with the song "Wasted Love" by JJ. It will be organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and host broadcaster Österreichischer Rundfunk (ORF).[2][3] This will be the third time that the country hosts the contest, having done so in 1967 and 2015, both held in Vienna.

Following Austria's win in the 2025 contest, several cities across the country expressed interest in hosting the 2026 edition. The director of host broadcaster Österreichischer Rundfunk (ORF), Roland Weißmann [de], emphasised venue suitability and proximity to airports as key criteria in the selection process, while ORF's program director Stefanie Groiss-Horowitz [de] noted the lack of newly built large arenas in recent years but encouraged municipalities with viable plans to submit bids.[4]

On 18 May 2025, the mayor of Vienna, Michael Ludwig, confirmed the city's intention to bid.[5] The same day, Graz stated that it was examining a potential bid, with mayor Elke Kahr pointing to Stadthalle Graz as a suitable venue.[6][7] The Schwarzl Freizeit Zentrum, also in Graz, was proposed as a potential venue by its concert manager and operator, Klaus Leutgeb.[8] Also on 18 May, Innsbruck and Wels confirmed that they would bid with the Olympiahalle and a new exhibition hall, respectively.[9][10] Oberwart also expressed interest in hosting the 2026 event.[11] On 19 May, St. Pölten mayor Matthias Stadler proposed VAZ St. Pölten [de] as a possible arena..[12] On 26 May, Ebreichsdorf presented a proposal to host in a temporary venue.[13]

Klagenfurt rejected a bid, while the state of Carinthia, where Klagenfurt is located, noted that a previous evaluation ahead of the 2015 contest found that the Wörthersee Stadion would require "costly adaptations" to meet hosting requirements; as a result, it was determined that hosting the event in the region was "not possible".[14] Salzburg ultimately decided against submitting a bid, with Mayor Bernhard Auinger attributing the decision to budgetary limitations and the unavailability of the Salzburgarena as a suitable venue.[15][16] The state of Salzburg, however, expressed optimism, with a spokesperson for Deputy Governor and state councillor for tourism Stefan Schnöll expressing that with "pragmatic creativity" it may be possible to find a suitable venue in the state.[17]

ORF launched the bidding process on 2 June 2025, by opening a window for cities and municipalities to declare their interest. Those candidates would then receive the detailed tender documents and have until 4 July to submit their bids. The broadcaster also set provisional dates for the final on 16 or 23 May 2026, with the first semi-final set for 12 or 19 May 2026, and the second on 14 or 21 May 2026.[18][19][20] The selected host city is expected to be decided by 8 August 2025.[21][22] Ebreichsdorf withdrew from the process on 15 June.[23]

  •  Austria – ORF announced that it would be selecting its entry through an internal selection,[29] but later stated that it did not rule out the possibility of organising a televised selection.[49][50]
  •  Denmark – DR announced that it would be selecting its entry through its traditional national final, Dansk Melodi Grand Prix.[30][31]
  •  Finland – Yle announced that it would be selecting its entry through Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu, the national final format which has been in use since 2012.[32][33]
  •  Germany – In January 2025, ARD announced it would switch the organisation of its participation in the contest from regional broadcaster NDR, which had been in charge since 1996, to SWR starting in 2026.[51][52] In June, SWR confirmed its participation.[36]

  •  Bosnia and Herzegovina – On 13 May 2025, the former head of the Bosnian-Herzegovinian delegation, Lejla Babović, gave an interview in which she explained the reasons by which the Bosnian-Herzegovinian broadcaster BHRT is still unable to return to the contest. Nevertheless, Babović said that there is a possibility of a return in 2026, stating: "If we pay off the debt by November [2025] and start working seriously on participating, we can come back in 2026, but it requires efforts from BHRT, the state, sponsors and people to choose the right song and come back as serious competitors."[60] On 14 June, Babović stated that the country could not currently return even with the support of a sponsor, as the EBU requires that the entire debt be paid off first.[61] Bosnia and Herzegovina last took part in 2016.
  •  Czech Republic – On 15 June 2025, a representative of the press department of ČT, Radek Konečný, stated that the broadcaster will announce its decision on participation in 2026 in the autumn of 2025.[62]

  •  Montenegro – Montesong producer Danijel Alibabić [sr] called for Montenegrin authorities to get more involved in RTCG's Eurovision efforts in 2026.[64] Head of delegation for the country, Vladana Vučinić, stated in a post-Eurovision article published on RTCG's website: "See you next year".[65] On June 15, Montenegrin broadcaster announced that the decision on whether the country will participate in 2026 will be taken in late September 2025.[66]
  •  North Macedonia – On 16 May 2025, Macedonian journalist Aleksandra Jovanovska gave an interview on the MRT programme Makedonija nautro, in which she said that the broadcaster is still interested in a return to the contest. •  San Marino – On 13 June 2025, the director of SMRTV, Roberto Sergio, stated that the broadcaster was considering not participating in 2026 due to a perceived lack of transparency with the results of the previous edition.[68]
