Submission declined on 27 June 2025 by KylieTastic (talk). This submission's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article—that is, they do not show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject (see the guidelines on the notability of people). Before any resubmission, additional references meeting these criteria should be added (see technical help and learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue). If no additional references exist, the subject is not suitable for Wikipedia.

Jayce Carmelo Luevanos (February 2, 2012 – May 24, 2022) was an American elementary school student who was tragically killed in the 2022 Robb Elementary School shooting in Uvalde, Texas. He was one of 19 children and two teachers killed during the mass shooting.
Early life
[edit]Jayce was born on February 2, 2012, in Uvalde, Texas, to Christina Quiroz and Jose E. Luevanos. He was the youngest of five siblings, including brothers Jose Enrique Jr., Chance, Corey, and sister Justine.[1] Known for his kindness, each morning he brewed coffee for his grandparents and left them notes saying “I love you.”[1]
Jayce lived just one block from Robb Elementary in a home that was a regular gathering place for neighborhood children.[1] He loved dinosaurs — often wearing dinosaur-themed shirts — and had a small dog named Fifi who waited for him after school.[1]
Death
[edit]On May 24, 2022, Jayce attended Robb Elementary School and was killed during the mass shooting in classroom 111. He died alongside his cousin, Jailah Nicole Silguero.[2]
Legacy
[edit]Jayce is memorialized in a portrait mural in Uvalde as part of the "Healing Uvalde" project created by the Smithsonian Latino Center. The mural shows him in a green dinosaur-ninja shirt and holding a coffee mug in honor of his morning ritual with his grandparents.[3]
The "21 Days of Tribute" campaign held by the Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District included staff and students wearing dinosaur shirts to remember him. Additionally, the "Remember Their Names" festival launched scholarships in his name for graduating seniors in Uvalde.[4]
Funeral
[edit]Visitation for Jayce was held at Hillcrest Memorial Funeral Home on June 1 and 2, 2022, followed by a funeral mass on June 3 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Uvalde.[5] His green casket was decorated with dinosaur and jungle motifs. He was laid to rest beside his cousin Jailah.[1]
In popular media
[edit]Jayce’s story and mural have appeared in national memorial coverage and exhibitions commemorating the Robb Elementary School victims, including features on Instagram, news outlets, and museum campaigns.[6]
