Sarita Kaushik in Zero Hour by ABP Majha

Sarita Kaushik is an Indian journalist currently serving as the Executive Editor of ABP Majha, a Marathi-language news channel owned by the ABP Network. She became the first woman to be appointed to a senior editorial role in a Marathi television news channel.[1][2] Kaushik hosts the channel’s news analysis program, The Zero Hour, which focuses on political and social issues in Maharashtra.[2]

She has received awards, such as the State-Level Outstanding Journalism Award, Maharshi Narad Puraskar, Shobha Vinod Memorial Journalist of the Year Award[2], Jeevan Gaurav Award,[3] and the Ahilya Devi Award for contributions toward women's empowerment.[4] Kaushik has worked on two publications: Unmasking India (as co-editor) and Better Than the Dream (as author), which document political dialogue and infrastructure development respectively.[5][6][7]

Early life and education

Kaushik was born in Nagpur, Maharashtra, to vocalist Gopal Kaushik and Marathi literature professor Asha Kaushik.[8] Kaushik studied law in Nagpur and began contributing articles to The Hitavada during her college years. She also worked as an editor for All India Reporter. She had received a scholarship from Rotary International to study journalism in the United States.[2][9]

Career

Kaushik began her journalism career at The Hitavada, covering political and internal security reporting.[9] In 2008, she joined ABP Network as Bureau Chief for Maharashtra. She was appointed Deputy Executive Editor in 2022 and was later appointed as Executive Editor of ABP Majha.[1][2]

In her current role, Kaushik is responsible for editorial operations at the channel and presents The Zero Hour, a flagship program featuring discussions on current affairs in Maharashtra.[2]

She speaks publicly on workplace issues, such as gender dynamics in media organizations.[10]

  • Better Than the Dream: A People's Story (2022): Authored by Kaushik, the book narrates the development of the Nagpur Metro project. [6]

Personal life

Kaushik's family background includes literature and the performing arts. Her father, Gopal Kaushik, was a composer whose work was performed by Lata Mangeshkar.

Kaushik resides in Maharashtra and she has interest in music, cooking, and physical fitness.[9]
