Love First Christian Center (LFCC) is a non-denominational Christian church located in Riverview, Florida, near Tampa. It was founded in 2008 by Dr. Jomo Cousins, a former professional football player, and Dr. Charmaine Cousins.

History

[edit]

LFCC began in 2008 as a small group meeting in a rented space. Within the first year, attendance reportedly grew to over 300 people. By 2010, the church held services at Riverview High School. In 2016, the church moved into its own facility at 12847 Balm Riverview Road.[1]

Beliefs and practices

[edit]

The church’s teachings emphasize the authority of the Bible and core Christian doctrines such as salvation through Jesus Christ, believer’s baptism, and communion. Services include worship and teaching intended for various age groups.

Leadership

[edit]

Dr. Jomo Cousins serves as senior pastor. His wife, Dr. Charmaine Cousins, is co-senior pastor. The church leadership also includes an executive pastor and other staff members overseeing different ministry areas.

Community outreach

[edit]

LFCC operates a weekly drive-thru food pantry established in 2020 to assist local residents, expanding services during the COVID-19 pandemic.[2] The church has also collaborated with RIP Medical Debt to help pay medical bills for community members.[3] In 2023, the church organized a health expo providing free screenings and wellness information.[4]

Media and publications

[edit]

Dr. Jomo Cousins has authored several books and hosts regular online devotionals.

Recognition

[edit]

In 2014, LFCC was a national finalist for the "Best Church" award in the Ford Neighborhood Awards hosted by Steve Harvey.[5]
