Clergy Care Collective is a nonprofit organization based in Chicago, Illinois. It was established in 2024 to support the mental health, vocational discernment, and spiritual well-being of Christian clergy and seminarians. The organization operates nationwide and emphasizes pastoral care, theological reflection, and disability inclusion within Christian ministry.

History

[edit]

Clergy Care Collective was founded by Rev. Matthew González, a former history teacher, attorney, and seminary graduate. After experiencing personal challenges with depression and anxiety, González discerned a call to ministry focused on the support of clergy who struggle with mental illness or disability, and those who feel called to serve such populations. He founded the organization as a 501(c)(3) public charity, headquartered in Chicago.

Mission and Activities

[edit]

The stated mission of Clergy Care Collective is to support the holistic well-being and flourishing of seminarians, pastors, deacons, priests, and others in Christian ministry. It provides pastoral resources, spiritual formation support, and mental health advocacy. The organization affirms the importance of Catholic social teaching and the centrality of the Eucharist in Christian life, while maintaining an ecumenical outlook.

The organization also emphasizes the celebration of religious scholarship by promoting engagement with theology, biblical studies, and church history.
