SHG Universities

[edit]

SHG Universities (also known as Swiss Hospitality Group Universities) is a private international network of hospitality and business schools founded in 2015 and headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland. The institution operates across 12 locations in Europe and the Americas, offering academic programs in international hospitality and business management that combine theoretical instruction with practical work experience.

History

[edit]

SHG Universities was established in 2015 by Eric Gregoire, a hospitality executive and educator. The institution was founded with the intention of addressing the gap between academic training and real-world readiness in the hospitality sector.[1] Its first programs were launched in Switzerland, and it has since expanded to include campuses in multiple European countries and beyond.

Campuses

[edit]

As of 2025, SHG operates campuses in the following cities:

  • Geneva (Switzerland)
  • Lisbon (Portugal)
  • Barcelona (Spain)
  • Paris, Cannes, Nice, Strasbourg (France)
  • Milan and Rome (Italy)
  • London (United Kingdom)
  • Cancún (Mexico)
  • Greece[2][3]

Each location follows a centralized academic structure and delivers the same curriculum in either local language or English, depending on the campus.

Academic Programs

[edit]

SHG offers undergraduate and graduate programs in:

  • Bachelor in International Hospitality Management (3 years)
  • MBA in International Hospitality Management (2 years)

The programs follow a dual-cycle structure in which each academic year consists of:

  • Six months of modular classroom study (10–15 hours per week)
  • Six months of full-time internship rotation in the hospitality industry[1]

Classes are held in hotel conference spaces or university facilities and follow a Monday-to-Friday schedule. Each module focuses on a single subject and lasts 5–10 days, concluding with an exam and a short professional presentation.

Teaching Approach

[edit]

SHG’s teaching model integrates elements of executive education and adult learning theory. Its academic approach combines three main methods:

  • Andragogy: Students select project topics aligned with professional challenges from their internships or career goals.
  • Experiential learning: Modules include simulations, field research, and roleplays, applying Kolb's learning-by-doing cycle.
  • Socratic method: Class discussions are guided by structured, open-ended questioning that develops analytical thinking.[4]

Each week concludes with a 20–40 minute written exam and a 5–15 minute investor-style case presentation simulating professional scenarios.[4]

Faculty members are trained to use an "MBA mindset" approach, framing each lesson from a strategic management perspective.[5]

Accreditation

[edit]

SHG is listed under the European Hospitality Schools Accreditation Council (EHSAC) and uses Diplomasafe for credential verification.[3]

Travelling Option

[edit]

SHG offers a "Travelling Option" that allows students to complete each academic year in a different SHG location. The curriculum is standardized across campuses to support consistency in learning outcomes.[1]

Governance

[edit]

SHG was founded by Eric Gregoire, who continues to serve as CEO. Gregoire has experience in international hospitality operations and executive education.[6]

Admissions and Student Life

[edit]

Admissions to SHG programs include submission of prior academic records, a DISC personality assessment, and an interview. Programs emphasize:

  • Small class sizes (maximum 15 students)
  • Weekly local language classes
  • Dual-format internships (part-time + full-time)
  • Cross-border mobility and multicultural integration[1]

Internship placements are offered in partnership with 4- and 5-star hotels. Many classroom sessions are held in hotel facilities. Student life centers on international exposure, hands-on learning, and career development.
