Parapleisticantha is a genus of crabs in the family Inachidae.[1] It has been found in Japan, Philipines and to Indian Ocean, but the depth of this genus is not recorded.[1] The term "parapleisticantha" is a combination of Greek and Latin roots. "Para-" is a Greek prefix meaning "beside" or "near." "Pleisticantha" is derived from the genus name "Pleistacantha", which itself comes from the Greek "pleistos" (most, greatest) and "akantha" (thorn, spine), meaning related to Pleistacantha.[citation needed]
