Manya Singh (born Kajal Omprakash Singh; 7 December 2001) is an Indian model and former banker who was the first runner-up at Femina Miss India 2020. Her background as the daughter of an auto-rickshaw driver drew media attention at the time of the pageant.[1][2]

Early life

Singh was born in Hata, Uttar Pradesh, to Omprakash Singh, an autorickshaw driver, and Manorama Singh, a homemaker.[3] She has mentioned facing economic difficulties, including working part-time jobs and walking long distances to attend school.[4] The family later moved to Mumbai, where she enrolled at Thakur College of Science and Commerce while working in restaurants and call centres.[2]

Pageantry

Singh represented Uttar Pradesh in the Femina Miss India 2020 pageant, held in February 2021. She was named the first runner-up.[5] Her story was featured in several national publications, which highlighted her educational background and early struggles.[6]

Television appearance

In 2022, Singh appeared as a contestant on Bigg Boss 16. During the show, she spoke about the limited career opportunities she received after her pageant placement, and discussed issues related to skin tone and discrimination.[7][8]

Recognition and public appearances

Following her success in the pageant, a rally was organized in Mumbai by her college to honour her, where her father led the procession in his auto-rickshaw.[9]
