Black Sabbath concert chronology

Back to the Beginning is an upcoming concert by English rock band Black Sabbath, scheduled to take place on 5 July 2025 at Villa Park in Aston, Birmingham.[1][2]

It is intended to be the final concert for both the band and frontman Ozzy Osbourne.[3][4] This will also mark the first time since the 2005 tour of Ozzfest that the original line-up of the band (Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward) has performed together live.

The event's name refers to the band's 1968 formation in Birmingham.

Production

The event will run 10.5 hours from 12:00 BST (7:00 EDT) to the local curfew at 22:30 BST (17:30 EDT).[5]

Tom Morello is serving as musical director for the concert.[6] Jason Momoa will host the all-day event.[7]

Promoter Andy Copping has said the event will use a revolving stage to quickly transition between musical acts, a concept used in 1985 for Live Aid.[8]

Tickets for the concert sold out in 16 minutes.[9] The entire event will be streamed online via pay per view, albeit on a three-hour broadcast delay beginning at 15:00 BST (10:00 EDT).[10]

Proceeds from the concert are going to support Acorns Children's Hospice, Birmingham Children's Hospital and Cure Parkinsons.[11]

One week before the concert, the four original band members were made Freemen of the City of Birmingham.[12]

To coincide with the concert, Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery launched an exhibition, "Ozzy Osbourne: Working Class Hero", running from 25 June to 28 September, displaying his awards, memorabilia and photographs.[13]

A mural depicting the band was painted on Navigation Street, outside Birmingham New Street railway station, by local artist Mr Murals, and completed in the days before the concert.[14] It was visited and signed by the four band members on 29 June 2025.[15]

Cancelled performers

Alex Lifeson and Geddy Lee of Rush were originally supposed to perform, but had to back out after "other things came up".[16] Wolfgang Van Halen was originally advertised for the event, but pulled out as his band Mammoth is opening for Creed in the United States, and the travel wouldn't be logistically possible.[17]

Judas Priest was invited to participate, but couldn't as they will be opening for Scorpions' 60th anniversary concert in Hanover, Germany that night.[18] They released a cover of Black Sabbath's "War Pigs" the week of the show to honor the band.[19]
