In the Zone is the fourth studio album from American singer Britney Spears, released in late 2003. It debuted at number one in the United States and France and features two European number-one hits in "Me Against the Music" and "Toxic". Britney supported the album with The Onyx Hotel Tour. |

In The Zone is the fourth studio album by Britney Spears. Her most sexual offering to date, In The Zone was also Britney's most musically diverse album, featuring producers such as R.Kelly, Bloodshy & Avant, and Moby and also, an increased artistic input by Spears herself compared to her other albums. |

The album's first single was "Me Against the Music", a duet with Madonna. Though the song was a hit on the dance charts, it had only minor success on the Top 40. With the release of the second single "Toxic", Britney scored her first major hit in four years, hitting number 9 on the Billboard Top 100 and was certified platinum. Shortly after, "Everytime" was released as the album's third single. Fueled by a controversial video directed by David LaChapelle, the song became a Top 20 hit and was ultimately certified gold. Though a fourth single, "Outrageous", was released, a video was never finished, as Britney reportedly damaged her knee while shooting the clip. However, the song charted on the Billboard Hot 100 singles at number 79. |
The album debuted at number 1 (with sales of over 609,000 copies) and has sold 3.1 million copies in the US according to Soundscan and is listed at 2x platinum according to the R.I.A.A.. When it debuted at number 1, Britney broke her own record again by becoming the first female artist in SoundScan history to have her first 4 studio albums debut at number one. (She previously set the record for her 2001 number one album Britney.). However, the album became her lowest selling studio album to date in the United States. Despite the fact it was her least commercial successful album of original material, In the Zone had more success with singles in the US than its predecessor; "Toxic" number 9, "Everytime" number 15 and "Me Against the Music" number 35. The album debuted at number 14 in the UK, but later re-entered the top 15 and peaked at number 13. |
After the release of the album the critics ignored "Toxic" and focused their attention on "Breathe on Me" and "Touch of My Hand". Both songs have lyrics that are sexually suggestive. |

It has many suggested titles before becoming In The Zone, such as Get In the Zone, but was changed at the last minute, due to Britney being sued by "Auto Zone" who's slogan is "Get In The Zone." |

"Don't Hang Up"' is a song appearing on Britney Spears' In the Zone album. |
==Miscellaneous== |
The song is about phone sex. It was a bonus track on the UK version and is also available on the CD that comes with the In The Zone DVD. |
"The Answer", produced by P. Diddy, was to be featured on In The Zone, but was originally released only as bonus track internationally. Additionally, versions of the album in other countries, including the United Kingdom, Japan and Australia, also feature the song "Don't Hang Up." |
==Chart performance== |
The front cover of the In The Zone album was released with just her head showing, but was to have her shoulders showing with the straps around them. The first cover announced for the United Kingdom was another version of the 'working cover' but in yellow. |
"In the Zone" debuted at number-one in the United States selling over 609,000 copies in its first week. While it's an impressive first week for the pop superstar, it falls short of the 746,000 copies her 2001 release "Britney" sold when it bowed at number-one. "In the Zone" fell 1-3, its second week sales dipped 59% to 251,000 copies, giving the album a total of 860,000. In its third week on the tally it fell 3-7 . In the Zone is the fourth studio album from American singer Britney Spears, released in late 2003. It debuted at number one in the United States and France and features two European number-one hits in "Me Against the Music" and "Toxic".[1] Britney supported the album with The Onyx Hotel Tour.
Album information
In The Zone is the fourth studio album by Britney Spears. Her most sexual offering to date, In The Zone was also Britney's most musically diverse album, featuring producers such as R.Kelly, Bloodshy & Avant, and Moby and also, an increased artistic input by Spears herself compared to her other albums.
After the release of the album the critics ignored "Toxic" and focused their attention on "Breathe on Me" and "Touch of My Hand". Both songs have lyrics that are sexually suggestive.
It has many suggested titles before becoming In The Zone, such as Get In the Zone, but was changed at the last minute, due to Britney being sued by "Auto Zone" who's slogan is "Get In The Zone."
"Don't Hang Up"' is a song appearing on Britney Spears' In the Zone album. The song is about phone sex. It was a bonus track on the UK version and is also available on the CD that comes with the In The Zone DVD.
Chart performance
"In the Zone" debuted at number-one in the United States selling over 609,000 copies in its first week. While it's an impressive first week for the pop superstar, it falls short of the 746,000 copies her 2001 release "Britney" sold when it bowed at number-one.[2] "In the Zone" fell 1-3, its second week sales dipped 59% to 251,000 copies, giving the album a total of 860,000.[3] In its third week on the tally it fell 3-7 . Although sales were down 40% to 150,000 copies, it was enough to bring Spears' total to just above the 1 million mark.[4] The album has sold three million copies in the US according to Nielsen SoundScan[5] but it is listed at 2x platinum according to the RIAA.[6] When it debuted at number-one, Britney broke her own record again by becoming the first female artist in SoundScan history to have her first four studio albums debut at number-one. (She previously set the record for her 2001 number-one album "Britney"). However, the album became her lowest-selling studio album to date in the United States. Despite the fact it was her least commercial successful album of original material, "In the Zone" had more success with singles in the US than its predecessor; "Toxic" (no. 9), "Everytime" (no. 15) and "Me Against the Music" (no. 35).[7]
In Canada it debuted at number two[8] and it is 3x platinum in that country.[9] In Japan "In the Zone" debuted at number three selling 59,128 copies,[10] earning platinum certification (250,000+ units) it has sold 406,716 to date.[11]
In April 2004, "In the Zone" was certified Platinum by the IFPI[12] for shipments of one million copies inside Europe. The album debuted at number fourteen in the United Kingdom, but later re-entered the top 15 and peaked at number thirteen.[13] And it has sold over 492,000 copies in the UK earning platinum certification.[14] Also, It debuted at number-one in France[1] and after spending sixty weeks inside the Top 200 the album was certified 2x gold selling over 290,000 copies.[15] It is also Platinum in Australia[16] despite only reaching a peak of number ten.[1]
In Latin America Britney Spears proved to be successful with "In the Zone", debuting at number-one in Mexico and Argentina, in Mexico it was certified Platinum by the AMPROFON for selling over 100,000 copies[17] while in Argentina it was certified gold (sales over 20,000 copies).[18] In Brazil, "In the Zone" debuted at number seven[1] earning gold certification (50,000+ copies).[19]
