History

  The College was established while the University, formerly a teachers' college, was redesignated as National Kaohsiung Normal University on August 1, 1989. Dr. Mi-Tao Chen is currently the fourth dean, whose predecessors were Dr. Kuang-Fu Chang, the first dean(1989-1995), Dr. Pei-Chuen Chai, the second dean(1995-2001), and Dr. Shen-Chuan Lin, the third dean(2001-2004).

  All the deans have made their dedications and efforts to expand the College by setting up new departments and graduate institutes. In addition, they have actively engaged themselves in working out new research directions and developmental characteristics for member institutes at the College so as to cope with challenges emerging from an ever changing society. Currently, the college places emphases upon the following for the member institutes: to draw up long-term projects for future development, to set up new directions for reorganization and readjustment, to regulate subsidiary guidelines for academic activities, and to encourage faculty members to do research works. The College has been devoted to helping transform the University, noted before as an normal one, to a comprehensive university by promoting research studies and cultivating manpowers needed by the society in addition to educating competent teachers.
