Nnaemeka Ikegwuonu is a Nigerian entrepreneur, radio broadcaster, and the CEO of ColdHubs solar energy company.[1][2]
Early Life
Ikegwuonu was born in 1982, in Imo State, Nigeria.[1][3] After receiving his education in Europe, he returned to Nigeria.[4]
Career
Initially a farmer in Imo State[3] in 2003[5] at the age of 21, Ikegwuonu founded the Smallholders Foundation[6][5] an interactive radio show to get information to rural Nigerian farmers. It grew to have an audience of over two million listeners.[7]
In 2012, Ikegwuonu travelled to Dresden, where he met with scientists to discuss the design of a cold storage system.[3] The trip inspired Ikegwuonu to launch ColdHubs in 2015, a solar-powered cooling company that rents chilled space to farmers and fishers by the crate.[1][5]
Awards
Ikegwuonu is a Rolex Awards Laureate[1] and has won over 24 awards[7] including:
- Yara Prize for Green Revolution in Africa (now known as the Africa Food Prize)[7]
- AYuTe Africa Challenge[1]
- 2020 Waislitz Global Citizen Disruptor Award winner[8][2]
