Specka is an electronic music club located at Calle Orense 26 in Madrid, Spain. Founded in 1989, Specka is recognized as one of the pioneering venues for electronic music in the Spanish capital.[1] It remains active today, maintaining its original management and philosophy, and is considered a landmark of Madrid's underground scene.[2]

History

[edit]

Specka opened its doors in 1989, during the initial boom of electronic music across Europe. It provided a platform for techno, house, ambient, and experimental sounds at a time when few venues in Madrid supported these genres. Over the decades, Specka maintained its focus on underground music and alternative culture, becoming a meeting point for both local and international artists.[3]

In 2008, Specka was highlighted as one of the most enduring clubs in Madrid's nightlife by major media outlets.[2] More recently, international publications have noted Specka's continued relevance, describing it as a venue that "takes the underground to another level" in Madrid.[4] Specka is one of the longest-running electronic music clubs in Spain, often cited alongside other historic venues.[5]

Musical focus

[edit]

Specka's programming includes a wide range of electronic music styles, such as techno, house, electro, minimal, ambient, and experimental sessions. The club is known for supporting non-commercial sounds and underground music culture. Regular events feature both established and emerging DJs from Spain and abroad.

Notable figures associated with Specka include Rosy Specka and Santi Specka, who has been curating its musical direction since 1989, now joined by David Ponziano.[6]
