Islamophobic

I believe the word 'often' is not accurate, as the Islamophobic phrases appear in only two instances. However, they also mock the Christian God, especially in Tralalero Tralala. As a native Italian speaker, I find the sentence clearly offensive to both the Christian God and Allah. Therefore, I think the term 'Islamophobic' is inaccurate; it would be much better to refer to it as generic blasphemy. 93.44.91.64 (talk) 19:38, 28 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Good note, i'll correct it Thegoofhere (talk) 19:50, 28 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Censorship?

The line for Bombardiro Crocodilo is getting censored by removing aspects of Palestine and Gaza. This shouldn't happen since information shouldn't be redacted for being "offensive, " especially if Bombardiro Crocodilo actually did say that Thegoofhere (talk) 20:33, 28 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Freedoxm, could you explain your edit here? This seems to be a rather spurious, as the phrase is Italian nonce. signed, Rosguill talk 18:26, 29 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, i'll explain it. I get that it is an Italian nonce, but some sources already showed that it mocks Islam, shown per a fandom example. That's why I removed that name. It also violates WP:NPOV 🗽Freedoxm🗽(talk · contribs) 18:30, 29 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
It seems that the meme was attached to further Islamophobic text, but "tralalero tralala" does not mean anything of the sort in itself; it is set up to rhyme with the following sentence which is what is offensive. signed, Rosguill talk 18:31, 29 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Also, n.b. the post-tralala text in question is actually Portuguese, which raises questions about the chronology of the meme... signed, Rosguill talk 18:32, 29 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Offensive my foot, we have articles about controversial topics and we aren't removing them for "being offensive," We aren't Disneyland, where everything is squeaky clean Thegoofhere (talk) 19:49, 29 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
WP:NOTCENSORED is actually the relevant policy that can be cited. I think that if there was a real basis for concluding that Tralalero Tralala was actually islamophobic, and that it was uniquely so in distinction from the rest of Italian brainrot but not in a way that was deemed worthy of note by RS, it could be argued that its inclusion at that juncture would be unnecessarily agitational and UNDUE. But that’s several counter factual assumptions away from being the case. signed, Rosguill talk 19:54, 29 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Bombardiro Quote

The quote i used was from the video Bombardillo originated, its not contextless Thegoofhere (talk) 03:16, 30 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

An extensive quote like that is not particularly encyclopedically relevant unless it is essential to the expression of the subject. In this case, the ridiculous and intentionally inflammatory content of the meme is convey appropriately through material referenced to secondary sources and their commentary. Being bombastic for the sake of shock-value is contrary to the purposes of NOTCENSORED. Also, quotes need to be attributed in-line, not just cited. ~ Pbritti (talk) 03:19, 30 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
IT IS though, thats the controversy behind him, and it needs to either be explained or shown Thegoofhere (talk) 03:23, 30 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Listen. I'm a fan of the meme. Been liking them when they pop up on Insta for weeks. But all the sites listed here are not reliable or significant sources and are basically blogs, other than the Daily Dot which is listed as yellow on WP:RSP. Wikipedia isn't KnowYourMeme. @Darth Stabro: Per the recent AfD on this, I think there's more in non-English sources about this subject. I think it's enough to stand up as a notable meme (drawing international coverage is rather unusual). I would hazard that this might not stand the 10-year test, though. ~ Pbritti (talk) 04:03, 30 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Restricted source

I came across this article by The Times of India but found it to be region locked. If anyone could access this article it could be a useful source to expand the page. Thanks. Golem08 (talk) 19:07, 30 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

It seems to largely rehash what other sources say. I'm a bit concerned that it may actually be largely an AI-written article, between the collective "TOI Tech Desk" byline. Even worse, it cites Francesco De Nittis of the Human Centric Group PR firm, which is problematic for two reasons: 1) we had already dismissed this source as being PR churnalism by a non-notable firm [1], as was pointed out in the AfD 2) even worse, the quotes in the TOI article attributed to De Nittis's blog post about Italian brainrot appear nowhere in the actual HCG blog post, and do not appear to exist elsewhere on the site (or elsewhere on the internet). This seems to be an AI-driven fabrication. signed, Rosguill talk 19:18, 30 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for checking it out. I'd had a look over at the list of perennial sources (WP:TIMESOFINDIA) and noticed there were some concerns over AI generated content, still worth investigating the article though. In reference to Francesco De Nittis, quotes by him are currently included in the description section of this page using this source. Golem08 (talk) 19:28, 30 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I'm not sure that's really a reliable source in context given that it's a clearly-marked press release. With regard to the TOI piece though, I'm more concerned that they seem to have fabricated new quotes attributed to De Nittis, i.e. quoting "The whole idea of Italian Brainrot is senseless and useless... signed, Rosguill talk 19:39, 30 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Understood. It's definitely best to steer clear of using the TOI source, it does not seem reliable. Golem08 (talk) 19:53, 30 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Future of this page

I'm kinda concerned with the turn this article is taking, ever since this article was extended-confirmed restricted, it has gone downhill. Like seriously.

The origin, impact, and description sections have been for some reason merged. Those sections were all different aspects of the meme, that weren't too related, now it's one frankstein-like sections, with aspects of the meme that aren't "descriptions". The description was for an explanation of the trend, if you wanted to see the impact of the meme, go to the impact section. If you wanted to see the origins of it, go to the Origins sections. You can't do that anymore because some "professionals" thought it was "fluff".

Plus, this article *could* easily be used for (for lack of better terms) "Gaza Glaze." The article is framing the meme as way more "Islamophobic" than it actually is. Its just generic blasphemy for Tralalero Tralala, though not Bombardillo Crocodillo.

If you can edit the article, please fix these issues. And also, this article doesn't need to be extended-protected, no one even vandalized the article when it was under auto-protection. Its not fair to extended-protect that wasnt vandalized, and wasn't even about a controversial topic that much.

TLDR: the new edits suck Thegoofhere (talk) 19:57, 30 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

What's happening to the page is that it's now being edited by more experienced editors with more time on the project, who are aligning the page's content and structure to be more in accord with Wikipedia's content policies and Manual of Style. The article should not have four different tope level sections with just a few sentences each, nor should it be repeating the same information about Islamophobia in each sentence. ~Darth StabroTalk • Contribs 20:03, 30 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
"Few sentences" Did you actually read the actual article when it still had those sections? They were not just "a few sentences". If you look at this old edit, the impact section is literally a paragraph! Thegoofhere (talk) 20:09, 30 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Personally I think the page is in much better shape compared to in the diff you provided. It's much more concise, compact and more effectively conveys the key information. See the cited sources which link Bombardillo Crocodillo to elements of Islamophobia if you don't believe it. Golem08 (talk) 20:15, 30 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Compact with consequences such as different information being sorted in one overly long section Thegoofhere (talk) 20:33, 30 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Much of that section remains incorporated in the article, and what was removed came from unreliable churnalistic source, see WP:NEWSORG. ~Darth StabroTalk • Contribs 20:16, 30 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
As the protecting admin ... you can either appeal that protection to ArbCom since it came under CTOPS, or work on other articles in good faith until you yourself gain extended-confirmed rights (Don't try to get there quickly by making minor edits to random pages at a rapidfire pace; you'll get caught and lose the status). Daniel Case (talk) 01:46, 1 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I would disagree that the new edits are bad. Italian brainrot was extended-protected due to "Bombardillo Crocodillo", the most controversial figure of Italian brainrot. ECP editors have much more experience than autoconfirmed users. 🗽Freedoxm🗽(talk · contribs) 22:14, 1 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The article you're citing says there is "blasphemy" against God, not damnation. Also kind of the word a lot simply means God in Arabic so there needs to be a bit of a more elegant way to phrase it. It's not perfect as it is, but it also doesn't really work the way that you've proposed it. ~Darth StabroTalk • Contribs 23:55, 30 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Also, the point about Arabic doesn't make sense since the meme is in Italian, not Arabic. If someone says "Allah" in a language that isn’t Arabic, they mean the Islamic god Thegoofhere (talk) 00:01, 1 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
The christian gazans call the Christian god "Allah" too. This doesn't make sense either but I don't believe that it mocks christianity. 🗽Freedoxm🗽(talk · contribs) 19:01, 1 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, that's because they don't speak English. I'm not saying Allah only means the Islamic God, it only refers to the Islamic deity if you use the term in another language like English for example Thegoofhere (talk) 19:43, 1 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Ballerina Cappuccina image

Is it acceptable for the Ballerina Cappuccina image to be displayed? It's created by AI and that puts in in PD. There are only three images (Tralalero Tralala, Bombardillo Crocodillo, and Boneca Ambalabu.) If three images are enough we should replace the Boneca one as it's not as viral as Ballerina Cappuccina. 🗽Freedoxm🗽(talk · contribs) 20:56, 2 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Also, regarding the comment on the Bombardillo Crocodillo image - skim WP:CAPTION. The caption as currently exists the criteria for a good caption. We do not need to repeat context that is already in the article. ~Darth StabroTalk • Contribs 21:05, 2 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Trallallero Trallallà linguistic origin

I believe that Trallallero Trallallà may have drawn inspiration from the Neapolitan song Funiculì, Funiculà. Additionally, the word "Trallallero" originates from Ligurian musical tradition, where it is used as a placeholder in singing when the actual lyrics of a song are forgotten. Return

Darthy, why'd you revert Freedoxm's edit? the current text in the article makes it sound like Bombardillo wasn't meant to be offensive, and that the users made it Islamophobic. Which is incorrect, it was meant to provocative and offensive. Also, I dont see how Freedoxm's text phrases it as if Bombardillo is a real person. Thegoofhere (talk) 00:40, 3 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

"audio from Bombardillo Crocodillo" makes it sound like there is actually someone named Bombardillo Crocodillo. "some videos using audio" more accurately describes the situation. ~Darth StabroTalk • Contribs 01:02, 3 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
How about "videos using the audio" not "some videos" Thegoofhere (talk) 01:05, 3 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Also, theres no room for anyone to think Bombardillo is a real person since it literally states what he is some sentences earlier. You'd have to be skimming and skipping through the text to even think if that. Plus, it sounds like Bombardillo isn't offensive, like wdym some videos using the audio are Islamophobic, if they use the same audio, they're all Islamophobic buddy. Thegoofhere (talk) 06:47, 3 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

In my opinion, it would make the article less disorganised. I don't think that the image gallery infobox is a good fit for this article. Normally, image gallery infoboxes are clearly a composite of symbolic images because they comprise real-world photos from clearly-distinct contexts, but that doesn't apply to a topic like this. Someone who has never encountered Italian brainrot before could see this gallery image and believe that this composite gallery format is itself representative of Italian brainrot memes (or loss.jpg). signed, Rosguill talk 20:02, 12 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I know. It's quite obvious that Tung Tung isn't in Italian. Freedoxm (talk · contribs) 06:19, 12 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I've edited it, please take a look again. ▪︎ Fazoffic ( ʖ╎ᓵᔑ∷ᔑ) 07:50, 12 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I wouldn’t call him "an Indonesian brainrot", as such language is just not grammatically correct. Perhaps say that the speech is in Indonesian or that he originates from Indonesia, depending on what the source says. 🔮🛷 Vote Kane 🛷🔮 (talk) 15:01, 12 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I mean, it follows all the othet elements of Italian brainrot, so we still call Tung Tung Sahur that, even if his narration isn't Italian Thegoofhere (talk) 19:54, 12 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
No one is claiming he doesn’t belong on the article or isn’t an example of the meme, just that we should include the actual nation. 🔮🛷 Vote Kane 🛷🔮 (talk) 19:56, 12 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, alright Thegoofhere (talk) 20:02, 12 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Tung Tung Tung Tung Tung Sahur became popular (or was even created) because of Italian brainrot. It follows what it generally expected of the memes (AI generated nonsense) even if it is actually in Indonesian and not Italian. Maybe in the article it can be mentioned that the meme is actually from Indonesia but is often included as a defining piece of Italian brainrot alongside Tralalero Tralala and Brr Brr Patapim. Description

Can we stop using the description section to add any information about Italian Brainrot all willie-nillie? Like seriously.

Also, change "who is part of Generation Z, included the brainrot element" To "who is part of Generation Z, included elements of Italian brainrot" Thegoofhere (talk) 21:13, 14 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed note

Hi @Freedoxm. I don't understand your reasoning for placing a 'disputed' note after Italian brainrot is a series of surrealist internet memes. Reliable sources clearly refer to Italian brainrot using the term meme, see [2], [3], [4] and more. Golem08 (talk) 12:40, 16 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, Okay. In that case, i'll revert it, my addition could've been WP:OR. Freedoxm (talk · contribs) 16:05, 16 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
All good. Golem08 (talk) 17:48, 16 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Three Sources about the origin of Italian brainrot

The section covering the origin of Italian Brainrot does not go in depth, so I've compiled some sources that can be used in the article.

[5][6][7] (last one is already in article)

Speaking of sources, the Russian language verison of this article (which this page is actually translated from) has a lot of sources this page doesn't have, so we could use some. Also, I added some source ideas above Thegoofhere (talk) 05:39, 18 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Also, in the deletion dicussion. Many European sources that we don't even have are listed. Thegoofhere (talk) 05:41, 18 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Good. Russesch (talk) 12:25, 21 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I see this article was translated by a now-globally locked user (details here) who has been blocked for block evasion, so I'm unsure of what specific version was translated. However, I did find the declaration template was removed from this page from some reason, which I'll replace. Sarsenethe/they•(talk) 10:23, 6 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Looks like it was removed here Thegoofhere (talk) 10:53, 6 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

First source has been translated wrong

The translation is wrong: Bombardiro the Crocodile. It should to be Bombardiro Crocodilo. Russesch (talk) 12:26, 21 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Please, fix it. Russesch (talk) 14:51, 12 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Already did it Thegoofhere (talk) 20:08, 12 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

WP:SOAP not relevant

@Ws1920, I'm having trouble understanding this edit you made back in April, since when was simply naming a product promotion? WP:SOAP wasn't relevant there, like at all Thegoofhere (talk) 02:50, 24 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

When brands attempt to capitalize on the viral trend to get attention, Wikipedia do not need to grant them further attention by naming and linking the brands unless it is relevant for the context of the article. Primarily this edit. The shoe brand in my edit in your comment is already named and linked elsewhere in the article. Feel free to add more brands you see as important to improve this article. Ws1920 (talk) 04:10, 24 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, I understand now. Thegoofhere (talk) 04:12, 24 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Important source

https://www.vulture.com/article/italian-brain-rot-ai-characters-explained.html This source provides additonal information about the origin of the meme Thegoofhere (talk) 02:46, 1 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Wdym?

Tralalero Tralala and Bombardino Crocodilo memes have been accused of being Islamophobic [...], Bombardino Crocodilo has been criticized for making light of the Gaza genocide, since some videos use audio which describes the character's "bombing raids" targeting children in Gaza...

Why some videos? Because i've only seen the original Bombardino Crocodilo, can you give me a YouTube or TikTok link to a version that does not talk about Gaza lol Surreal1x1 (talk) 20:10, 1 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

most tiktok videos I've seen just use the characters, as props including Bombardino Crocodilo. usually using AI for it. its been used for AI story telling outside of politics. JamesEMonroe (talk) 05:21, 2 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Check the sources, Wikipedia runs on sources. There shouldn't be anything in this article that doesn't come from them. I can do stuff! (talk) 14:10, 3 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Name for Bombardino/Bombardiro Crocodilo?

Throughout this article, the character is referred to as both Bombardino Crocodilo and Bombardiro Crocodilo. I believe we should have one consistent way to refer to him.

Personally, I think it should be the former, considering it‘s the most common way to refer to him that I‘ve seen on YouTube Shorts, but I‘m not entirely sure. What is your opinion on this? Which one should it be? SapphireElixir (talk) 15:34, 4 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

According to Google Trends, the most popular name for him is "Bombardiro Crocodilo" instead of "Bombardino" or "Bombardino". Thegoofhere (talk) 21:09, 4 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, good to know, thanks! SapphireElixir (talk) 05:10, 5 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
It's actually "Bombardino Crocodilo". That Google Trends link uses "Crocodilo" with two l's for the "Bombardino" spelling, which is a typo. Fixing this [8] shows that "Bombardino Crocodilo" is the most common spelling by far. Malerisch (talk) 07:19, 22 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Oh yeah, that makes sense! Thanks a lot! SapphireElixir (talk) 07:44, 22 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I feel like the lack of "encyclopedic tone" applies to almost the entire article.

Maybe I'm just picky, but the "History" section of the article comes off as incredibly clunky to me. Precursor seems too short and doesn't actually explain the connection beyond similar words, main body just seems to fight over who came up with the meme, and the notoriety section doesn't really say why it gained notoriety.

Also the character section just needs to be redone entirely. Kind of hard to follow imo

I would edit it myself but idk if I want to research Italian brainrot tonight lmao Wackistan (talk) 03:40, 5 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Somewhat fixed the problems you listed in the Orign section Thegoofhere (talk) 12:00, 5 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
It strikes me as perhaps excessive detail to name every social media account which contributed to the meme. Golem08 (talk) 12:41, 5 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I think a couple of them are likely important enough to its development to be named, the main problem is that the flow is non existent and jumps from person to person. Wackistan (talk) 15:16, 5 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
If the social media channel is not notable enough maybe it should not be named to avoid giving it undeserved popularity.--ReyHahn (talk) 15:40, 5 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

For the translation of Bombardiro Crocodilo use this link:

@thegoofhere! Surreal1x1 (talk) 20:24, 8 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
The Miraheze wiki is not a reliable source because it is user-generated. Although I am an admin on that wiki. Thegoofhere (talk) 20:31, 8 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
But use the italian original version and translate it into English with Google Translate, DeepL [...], etc. Although machine translation is not so viable lol @Thegoofhere. Surreal1x1 (talk) 21:06, 8 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello

I found a plushie of one of these things at a flea market do you think a picture for that would be useful for this article? It also has a big fat tag that says "MADE IN CHINA"; I could also go back and take a photo of the stand with all the plushies, it had so many of the Italian brainrots. Would a photo of any of that be of use? Let me know -- WeInTheUSA (talk) 18:22, 9 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

It probably will be, please take and upload the pics! 𐩣𐩫𐩧𐩨 Abo Yemen (𓃵) 18:29, 9 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Inconsistent regional spelling

This article inconsistently uses -ize and -ise spelling. 64.114 etc 00:58, 11 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Israel/Palestine sanctions

Should this really be under ARBCOM sanctions? The only connection in the article is a video mentioning the war. Soldiers aren't blowing up houses for having Angelina Cappuccino on them or whatever. -FelineHerder (talk) 09:21, 21 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I believe it should. Bombardiro Crocodilo is a heavily controversial character known for mocking Muslims. Freedoxm (talk · contribs) 19:28, 21 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
