Creation named
[edit]If they were invented by a Brit, in Britain, shouldn't the article be named "Crisps" and the alternative name be "Chips"? JamesWoods87 (talk) 17:56, 13 December 2023 (UTC)
- WP:COMMONNAME 212.3.130.126 (talk) 20:36, 4 January 2024 (UTC)
- yes and also crisps is a common name 81.131.36.98 (talk) 15:59, 26 March 2024 (UTC)

Oldest Potato Chip
[edit]Hello!!
I believe that there is an older potato chip brand "tri sum chips" seems to be founded in 1908 compared to Mikesells potato chip company which was said to be founded in 1910! (https://tri-sum.com/pages/our-story)
Hope this can be resolved! 2600:6C64:58F0:18E0:F8A1:4E9A:C1C9:51D6 (talk) 19:52, 5 March 2024 (UTC)
Also noting that Tri Sum Chips from Massachusetts is the first potato chip company.

- Potato chip → Potato chips
- Ketchup chip → Ketchup chips
- Salt and vinegar chip → Salt and vinegar chips
- Dill pickle chip → Dill pickle chips
– Potato chips are almost never discussed in the singular, to the extent that these articles often use the WP:COMMONNAME plural form within the text of the articles themselves. While there has been a previous move discussion on this, I think there wasn't enough emphasis on the WP:PLURAL aspect. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 19:39, 5 April 2025 (UTC)
- Support per nomination, the n-grams, and the support view in the previous RM (which specifically points to Corn flakes and French fries as applicable examples). Randy Kryn (talk) 13:31, 6 April 2025 (UTC)
- Oppose. WP:SINGULAR says we title our articles in the singular with the only listed exceptions being "nouns that are always in a plural form in English (e.g. scissors or trousers)" and "names of classes of objects", neither of which fits the situation here. Potato chips can clearly exist in singular form and therefore we title the articles the way they are now. — Amakuru (talk) 14:09, 6 April 2025 (UTC)
- My interpretation leaned more towards the "classes of objects" and IAR side of what's discussed on that page. I wouldn't say potato chips are always discussed in the plural form, but they almost always are, which is good enough for me. I understand that other people's perspectives may be different. - Support: as a dish, they are always cooked and served in bunches. Hence, the dish is always referred to in the plural. ―Howard • 🌽33 19:49, 6 April 2025 (UTC)
- Support: I came here from the page on French fries, which is pluralized, and I think that is a lot more logical
