The result of the debate was move to Riau. Joelito (talk) 17:00, 1 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • support - Riau Province is the primary meaning of the term. Other meanings can be found by the user on the disambiguation page. (Caniago 11:16, 26 September 2006 (UTC))[reply]
  • support - As there is no other article named Riau as well (or "yet"). Riau Islands is another province with exactly different name. So I reckon the best thing to do is to prioritise this article with like, "If you mean Riau Island, please go to yadda yadda yadda". Cheers -- Imoeng 10:42, 26 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support — Riau is a province name, and I agree with Imoeng that Riau Islands is totally different name, so I don't know why Riau is mixed with Riau Islands. — Indon (reply) — 11:20, 26 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Authority that Riau includes the Riau archipellago[edit]

It is stated in http://www.pbs.org/nbr/site/research/educators/060106_14a/ that:

Riau Province occupies the central part of the eastern region of Sumatera Island, including the archipelagic area which ranges between the Straits of Malacca, the South China Sea and the Straits of Berhala. The province is a strategic region as it directly faces the Straits of Malacca and Singapore, one of the busiest and oldest shipping lanes in the world. The archipelago part of the province is composed of 3,214 islands full of beautiful beaches and traditional fishing villages. These islands provided safe haven to traders and sailors traveling from India to China for centuries and retain the ancient reputation as "crossroads of the world." Today, they cater to tourists with resort style hotels offering everything from golf to a variety of water sports. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.101.68.153 (talk) 22:26, 29 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I believe that's not correct anymore. Following expansions of more new Indonesia provinces and regencies, the Riau province has been split into two provinces: Riau and Riau Islands provinces. — Indon (reply) — 01:23, 30 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
