The Last of Us: Escape the Dark

Information icon This was originally a triple nomination, but has been split into three separate nominations. The other two are Template:Did you know nominations/The Last of Us (franchise) and Template:Did you know nominations/Untitled The Last of Us game. MANdARAX • XAЯAbИAM 18:43, 27 January 2023 (UTC)

Moved to mainspace by Rhain (talk). Self-nominated at 04:37, 5 January 2023 (UTC).

  • I will review this nomination shortly. Epicgenius (talk) 13:50, 5 January 2023 (UTC)

All three articles:

General: Article is new enough and long enough
Policy: Article is sourced, neutral, and free of copyright problems
Hook: Hook has been verified by provided inline citation
QPQ: Done.

Overall: Epicgenius (talk) 14:27, 5 January 2023 (UTC)

  • @Rhain and Epicgenius: I'm a bit uneasy about both of these hooks; I'm sure it's not intentional, but having nothing to say about media franchises other than "they exist" or "coming soon" sounds a bit like advertising to me. theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (she/her) 01:33, 18 January 2023 (UTC)
    • @Theleekycauldron: Definitely a valid concern, but I'm struggling to think of an interesting, concise hook using all three articles. Should this nomination be split into separate hooks, or refocused on one of the articles? (I'm not bothered if refocusing on one makes the other two ineligible for now; they can always be re-nominated upon 5× expansion or GA.)Rhain (he/him) 01:59, 18 January 2023 (UTC)
      • Well, I don't think we'd be losing eligibility on any of the articles. Opening up new nominations for each of the other articles is efficient, but probably a little cumbersome. I'd say that it'd be messier, but we can probably get by if you just propose separate new hooks down here and have them all reviewed and promoted into separate preps. theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (she/her) 02:05, 18 January 2023 (UTC)
        • I think proposing separate hooks is probably the best option; I've done that below. Please feel free to adjust my formatting as much as is necessary. – Rhain (he/him) 05:23, 18 January 2023 (UTC)
  • ... that The Last of Us: Escape the Dark tripled its Kickstarter goal within the first day? Source: Push Square
  • I can confirm that ALT0 is interesting and cited, it also appears in the article with two citations. ALT0 hook does not tell us about the game, but it makes me click so I will let a promotor choose. I did like ALT1 as more about the game, and it is cited and in the article. The article appears to be free of copyright violations and it has the correct inline citations. It is neutral and both hooks are interesting. The article was new enough and long enough (4274 characters) when nominated. Nominator did three QPQs in preparation for a threefor, and so the QPQ is done. Bruxton (talk) 00:38, 22 February 2023 (UTC)
@Rhain, Epicgenius, Theleekycauldron, and Bruxton: I am deeply uncomfortable with both these hooks. ALT1 is in future tense, describing a boardgame that will not be released until December 2023 (so it seems inappropriate for us to say in wikivoice to predict this...anything could happen between now and December despite the product announcements). While ALT0 is in past tense, it's about attainingexceeding a funding target, which also raises flags – AfD has a massive graveyard full of startup articles that were deleted because they relied too heavily on funding announcements ("so what?"). Is there any way we could consider postponing this for DYK until after the boardgame is released? Perhaps when the article is at GA? I bet it will get interesting reviews. Until then, anything we say about this product will inherently sound WP:PROMOTIONAL and WP:CRYSTALBALL like, because it is still a commercial work in progress. If this runs on the main page before then, I would expect to get complaints at ERRORS and at DYK Talk. Cielquiparle (talk) 03:41, 28 February 2023 (UTC)
I certainly understand the concerns, especially accounting for the final point in WP:DYKNOT regarding "product launches". (In fact, I probably wouldn't have nominated this yet, had it not been for the original triple nom.) I'm fine with delaying a nomination until a possible GA (assuming a second nomination is allowed at that point). – Rhain (he/him) 03:52, 28 February 2023 (UTC)
Thanks Rhain. Understand it wasn't originally intended as a standalone nomination. It's fine to resubmit in the future without prejudice. Cielquiparle (talk) 03:59, 28 February 2023 (UTC)
