'Ghatail Cantonment English School and College'[1] (previously known as Little Star English School and Ghatail International School) is an English-Version educational institution located in Shaheed Salahuddin Cantonment, Ghatail, Tangail, Bangladesh. School EIIN: 137643. It serves both military and civilian students and is the only English-version college in the Tangail district.
History
[edit]Early Years (2000–2013)
[edit]The school was established on 18 January 2000 as Little Star English School, a pre-primary institution, at the Panthonir Officers' Quarter within the cantonment. In 2004, it was relocated to MP Check Post No. 2 and upgraded to a primary school. Major General Iqbal Karim Bhuiyan, psc (later Chief of Army Staff) played a key role as its Chief Patron.
National curriculum
[edit]In this curriculum, the students are prepared for the Secondary School Certificate and Higher Secondary Certificate examinations. The students used to sit the PECE exam in Class 5 and JSC in Class 8, but now according to the new curriculum, they don't have to. The students follow the textbooks, translated into English, and published by the National Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education in Bangladesh.
Upgrades and Name Changes (2013–2023)
[edit]- 2013: Renamed Ghatail International School (GIS) on 7 February 2013, expanding to junior level.
- 2015: Rebranded as Ghatail Cantonment English School, introducing modern multimedia teaching facilities.
- 2017: Approved by the Dhaka Education Board as a Secondary School Certificate (June 2017).
- 2023: Upgraded to Ghatail Cantonment English School and College (2 May 2023). The Higher Secondary School Certificate began operations on 8 October 2023.
Administration
[edit]The school has undergone multiple administrative transitions:
- Initially managed by Station Headquarters, Ghatail.
- Later overseen by:
- Corps of Military Police Center and School (CMPC&S)
- Center and School of Military Police, Education and Administration (CSMEA) (2008)
- Army School of Education and Administration (ASEA) (2011)
- Since 1 December 2018, supervised by HQ 19 Artillery Brigade, with its Commander serving as Chairman of the Managing Committee.
Infrastructure and Development
[edit]- The first phase of a new school building was completed under the Annual Development Project (ADP) and inaugurated on 15 December 2019.

- Plans for further expansion aim to accommodate 1,000 students as part of the "Chain English Version School" initiative.

Ghatail Cantonment English School and College was established on 18 January 2000 as Little Star English School in Panthonir Officers' Quarters. After upgrades, it became Ghatail Cantonment English School in 2015 and expanded to Higher Secondary (College) level in 2023.

The school, initially managed by Station Headquarters, Ghatail, later came under 19 Artillery Brigade (since 2018). A new campus was inaugurated on 15 December 2019, featuring modern facilities.On 02 May 2023 this institute was upgraded to Ghatail Cantonment English School and College. 08 October 2023 the first batch of Higher Secondary Section joined this institution.
Current Status

- Caters to children of military personnel and civilians in the Ghatail region.
