Practicing Citations

Critics have commented on the increase in diversity present within YA but also are demanding the need for “‘own voice’ cultural producers”. ^[1]

There has also been an increase in representation of the LGBTIQ+ community within YA. However there have been critiques on the rise of a singular, narrow discourse of queer characters ^[2] and their embodiment, adopting the view that this creates potential harm as it limits the complexity of gender, self-identity and overall psychological impact of these issues in YA fiction.
