Early life

Brendan Hayes was born in Cork on August 22nd 1979. He grew up in Dunmanway and was brought up by Michael and Mary Hayes. He has 3 brothers and 2 sisters.

Work life

In 2005 he attended university college Cork and studied mental health nursing. Upon qualifying he began working with children with mental health difficulties. In 2011 his daughter was diagnosed with leukaemia and after 3 years of therapy she recovered. After seeing the response from the community in their support towards himself and his family he became very active in the community. He began by holding a candle lit walk around Cork city with then city mayor Mary Shields. In 2015 Brendan returned to his first love which was film making and directed and produced a short called Macra Girl. He followed that up the next year with a local feature entitled inlaws and outlaws. Soon afterwards he produced and directed a documentary on the Sam Maguire community bells along with local reverend Cliff Jeffers and his partner of over 20 years Amanda Murnane. This became part of the audiovisual tour in St Mary's church Dunmanway.

Brendan is currently working on a documentary entitled 'Forget not the boys'to commemorate the centenary of the Kilmichael ambush.
