[edit]These fish are native to Asia, and consist of over 75 various species in this genus.
Commonly known in the United States, as they are frequently sold as pets. Bettas are popular fish due to their color variety and ease to care for, although the males must be kept separated from other bettas, however females are commonly seperated as well, despite this not being essential.
